So you finally finished the school year and are ready to head home for the summer. No more lame dorm beds, frozen meals, or setting an alarm for the year! If there is one thing I learned though its that coming home from school is a process. Here are the six stages of coming home as told by an out-of-state college student.
Stage 1: Pure happiness/nostalgia.
Walking in to your home for the first time after school gets out is a lot like the feeling you get after walking into your house after a vacation. There is nothing like the nice warm feeling you get when you first walk through the house you haven’t seen for months and you realize you get to be here for a whole three months.
Stage 2: Say hi to all the animals.
After a hot second of being at home, you realize that your favorite furry friends are here and they are so happy to see you. After missing them all year, you can proceed to hug and love them against their will for the whole summer.
Stage 3: Consume all of the food.
You don’t have to pay for your food at home anymore so you may consume all of the food inside your house. Not to mention the fact that you have a slightly bigger refrigerator that is actually filled with food. Not to mention the snacks and a full kitchen for you to cook. No more frozen meals for you, and hello decent food.
Stage 4: Sleep for days.
Chances are you probably lost a lot of sleep the last few weeks of the semester. It was only inevitable due to the fact that between studying for finals week and finishing final projects you barely had time for anything. If you’re anything like me, though, you will take the first couple of days and you will go to bed at a decent hour in your nice not-dorm room bed and catch up on all the sleep you missed. Not to mention attempt to nap as often as you can.
Stage 5: See all of your friends and visit all of your favorite places in the span of a week.
There are so many things to do and so many people to see. There may be choice on whether to go to your favorite childhood restaurant or go visit a really good friend that you haven’t seen since winter break. You will want to go visit all of your old hangout spots and all the places that once meant so much to you all at one time because it's exciting being home.
Stage 6: Forgetting to tell your family where you went.
When you’re at school, you don’t have to report to anyone about where you are going or who you are going out with. When you come home, though, you may need to at least warn your parents that you are leaving so they don’t send out a search party when they realize that you have been missing for more than an hour.
Stage 7: Enjoy your time at home!
You're only home for a few months before you have to go back, so make sure you spend some quality time with your family and hometown friends because you will be back at school before you know it.
