No, not the moms and dads that push their children into dance and theatre against their will, but the parents that supported you from your first audition to college BFA selections. These people had a lot to deal with, and we Theatre Geeks have a lot to thank them for.
1. For understanding my frustration when people assume I said "lesbian society" not "thespian society."
2. For taking their entire Saturday to help the cast build elaborate set pieces and paint for hours on end.
3. For letting me get 5 lbs. of makeup on their clothes when I gave them sweaty hugs after the show.
4. For rotating heat and ice properly after I sprained something dancing.
5. For not killing me after I chose the smaller sized character shoes when I thought they would stretch out but they didn't and you wasted a lot of money.
6. For paying for the expensive voice lessons, piano lessons, and dance lessons.
7. For not letting me quit when things didn't go my way.
8. For listening to me practice the same 16 measures of a song non-stop until the day of my audition.
9. For driving me and all of my annoying castmates to rehearsal several times a week.
10. For attending every single night of the show even though you were sick and tired of this damn musical.
11. For waiting for me to walk out of rehearsal because I was messing around with my friends and not packing up my stuff.
12. For washing my nasty leotards, costumes, socks, and everything else I got sweat and makeup all over.
13. For lugging a giant cooler of water bottles to every dress rehearsal and not complaining.
14. For giving me a reality check when I get cocky.
15. For telling me I am talented when I doubt myself.
16. For spending whole weekends at consignment shops finding costume pieces when the community theatre lost funding.
17. For sitting at the ticket desk bored out of your mind.
18. For not murdering the moms and dads that are obsessed with themselves and their "Little Stars."
19. For picking me up from the cast parties and not asking me about what happened at these parties.
20. For being ecstatic when I was elected troupe president.
21. For thinking what I do is special, even though everyone made fun of me.
Thank you, mom and dad. *breaks out into song and dance*
