We’re halfway there! Last week marked the beginning of the second half of the semester, which is both exciting and exhausting to think about. About halfway through the semester, you will probably find yourself hoping and praying for some better grades, and potentially settling with the idea that you are not going to do well in a class. This is the time where you evaluate whether or not you should pick up the slack and make the good grade or say, “Forget it. I’m done.” If you are at the “I’m done” point, here are some pick-me-ups that can help you reevaluate your decision.

1. Never give up. Stay focused. Stay positive. Stay strong.

School is tough, but don’t give up yet.

2. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Sometimes you have to step outside your comfort zone to get what you want, but don’t be scared. Give it a chance.

3. Just keep swimming.

Dory said it best. When life gets hard, just keep swimming.

4. Meredith Grey did not become a surgeon and get to marry Dr. McDreamy by not studying.

Study for tests. Work hard in school, so that you too can marry a McDreamy in your future.

5. Sticking with it is easier than starting over. Stay motivated. Keep going.

If you’re considering dropping a class, ask yourself if you really want to start from scratch and take it again. If it’s worth it, go for it. If it’s not, believe you can do better and go for it.

6. Dreams don’t work unless you do.

If your dream is to be successful and make lots of money some day, then you have to stay motivated and work hard in school, so you can hopefully get a great job and make great money. It’s worth it in the end.

7. Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.

Stay strong. You got this!

8. Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

Positive mental attitudes can get you so much farther than you think. Tell yourself that you can do it and keep going.

9. Have a little faith, and if that doesn’t work, a lot of mimosas.

Blair Waldorf says keep going and has faith that you can do it even it you need some mimosas in the process.

10. Nothing is impossible. The word itself says "I’m Possible."

Yeah that’s right, so that class you think is impossible to get a good grade in, just remember that it can be done.

11. "Sí se puede."

It means “Yes I can!”

The moral of the story is don’t quit. Keep holding on and moving forward. This is just one semester of your life, and the results in the future will make it all worth it one day. You just have to keep positive and motivated. It will be over before you know it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
