Everybody hates on rain and dreary weather, and I don't get it. In my opinion, rainy days are the best days because they give me an excuse to stay in my pajamas and be a couch potato all day without making me feel like I'm wasting my time. Rain is also a great excuse to try things that you normally wouldn't do, or that you normally wouldn't have time to do. Although it might seem like rain is only around to put a damper on your plans, put a fun spin on the weather instead and have a good time indoors with one of these suggestions:
1. Read a book.
There is almost no better way to spend a rainy day than snuggling up with a cup of tea and a good book. If you need help picking out a book to read, there is a website that finds novels for any type of person.
2. Craft.
Even if you're not the artistic type, breaking out the paint and glitter can be a really therapeutic way to relieve some stress while also creating a fun new masterpiece. (bonus: this craft can double as a whimsical birthday gift that is way cooler than that $5 wine you were planning to buy).
3. Bake something.
Baking is great because not only is it fun to do, it also yields a final product that you can eat! This list of recipe ideas is great if you still need to get into the fall spirit, or if you just really love all things pumpkin. My personal favorite rainy day baked good is black bean avocado brownies, which are delicious and nutritious, but mostly delicious.
4. Play a board game.
When is the last time you played a board game? Break out the old Monopoly board and see if you still got it, or if you really want to spice things up, check out this website and turn your favorite board games into drinking games.
5. Work out.
If you really aren't feeling like sitting on the couch all day, you can be active without having to step foot outside. Here is a list of great, free online fitness channels that will have you feeling awesome and productive. And after that workout, you'll be able to eat twice as many of the baked goods you made.
6. Catch up on sleep.
Sometimes the best thing you can do on a rainy day is cuddle up in bed. The great part is you can't go wrong with this option because no one regrets a good nap.
7. Skype someone.
When's the last time you talked to your mom about your life? What about your long distance best friend? How's your sister doing? Rainy days are a wonderful time to catch up with someone you've been too busy to spend more than a few minutes talking to, plus you can combine skyping with other activities like watching a movie. It'll be like you're together and you won't even have to leave your bed.
8. Have a sleepover.
Invite your favorite people over, on the condition that they bring snacks, and do all the classic sleepover activities, such as marathoning all of your favorite movies, painting your nails, gossiping, making cookies, and anything else you can think of. Blanket fort and wine recommended.
9. Netflix.
If all else fails, ol' faithful won't steer you wrong. As for recommendations, these Netflix gems are perfect for a nice relaxing day of not putting on pants or getting off the couch.
