College, in my opinion, is the time in which we all find ourselves. No one graduates college as the same person they were when they walked through the doors of their English class on their very first day of school. Sure, as years go by people naturally change, but going to college will create a huge transformation in someone's behaviors, habits and views in life. As for myself, I am conscious at the fact that I have changed and will only continue to change; even though some people will not be pleased with this, I know that I am growing and learning as I go.
Same Kim, SAME.
We start college as young adults, at 18 years old or some even at 17. I believe many of the decisions needed to be made are thrown at a fast pace, making it easy for people to feel pressured and nervous on whether or not they are making the right choice.
For instance, before even attending a college, we are required to select a major on our application. This major will lead to our future career opportunities which will follow us for the rest of our lives.
How are we expected to know what we want to do with our lives?
We’re thrown into the real world abruptly and then we are expected to know what we want. I personally do not think that is possible. We’re still growing, evolving, exploring and figuring out where we belong, therefore these types of decisions are bound to throw people off and make them feel overwhelmed.
But there's so much more to college than just majors, classwork and exams...
Some life changing aspects are as follows:
1. If you don't know how to value money, guess what, now you will.
2. Naps will become the most valuable time of the day.
3. Coffee will soon become an important thing in life. Scratch that, a necessity.
4. People don't care how you dress or do your hair, honestly. Some people literally 'roll out of bed'.
5. You'll get your heart broken, but you'll live, trust me.
6. Sometimes your loved ones don't understand why you're changing.
7. You'll miss your mom's food everyday.
8. At times, you'll feel alone and ready to give up.
9. But luckily, you'll create some of your most significant friendships.
10. Boys/girls, they'll come and go. Don't worry, there's plenty more 'fish in the sea'.
11. Adventure time is the best time, value it!
12. You only miss the chances you don't take. Build memories, they'll be worth so much.
With that said, don't stress too much. We're all young, our lives are a mess; we'll fail, cry, stumble and the thought of dropping out will sometimes even come to mind. But remember, you're not alone. Better days will come; the best thing to do is to enjoy the ride. Learn from your mistakes and put your happiness and health before anything or anyone else. Life is too beautiful to live with regrets, so be free-spirited and express yourself in whatever form your soul pleases.
