So, it’s been week and you’ve started working and/or have finished binge watching every show on Netflix. Now what? If you’re home, I know that it is not as exciting at the city, for we have everything at our fingertips there, but I am sure there are some fun things to do, even in your small, little home town. If you are staying in the city for the summer, I am sure you have read countless articles and blog posts about cool things to do in the city during these next few months.
1. If you are home, try visiting a historic site by or in your hometown.
I live in what used to be a colonial town, so there are tons of historical sites in my immediate and surrounding areas.
2. Go for a nature walk.
The natural environment is good for our minds. I love the city too, but I need a break a lot of the time. It’s nice not to hear all the car horns or the garbage trucks at two in the morning, and to just listen to the wind, birds, and streams.
3. Visit an amusement park.

There’s one very popular one by my house that people from New York and New Jersey even go to (I’m really not sure why, although I am not a huge fan of amusement parks in the first place). If you do enjoy amusement parks, it’s a fun thing to do with your siblings. My sisters and I went last year, and they were champs at taking care of me when I got sick because of the rides. (You two rock!)
4. DIY

Go on Pinterest, find some stuff to make, and make it! It doesn’t even have to be crafts; I make my own hand scrubs and other beauty products. Who knows? You may really like making a particular thing, and you can start your own Etsy shop.
5. Clean your room

If you’re like me, your room has become a dump, meaning that when you came home on each individual break, you just dumped more things in your room and told yourself you would clean it up this summer. This is the time, my friends. Clean it up, if you can’t stand to live in a mess like me.
6. Read some books!

I just downloaded a new book on my Nook, and I forgot how relaxing reading can be. I’ve been reading every night before bed and in the morning when I wake up, since I can’t sleep past 8am.
7. Try new things.

Try making new foods or visiting new restaurants. Try out a new hobby. I’ve never fished before, but I’m trying my best to learn and practice (shout out to my boyfriend for buying me a pink fishing pole). If you’ve gone all school year saying that you’ll go to the gym, haven’t, and then used the excuse: “I had no time”, well, now you do. You don’t have to go every day! You don’t even have to go there; there are tons of workout tutorials on YouTube to do from home.
8. Get a job.
As FIT students, this is not a foreign concept. I’ve never met a student body so hard working and goal-driven. If you don’t have a summer job, try to find one! Ask around! Your friends are great references, and that’s how I ended up with my retail job. If stores and other institutions are not hiring, try making a profile on care.com. This is the time where parents are looking for babysitters for their kids, since school is coming to an end.
Overall, whether you are home or still in NYC, I hope this list can help inspire you on those boring summer days. If you enjoyed this article, share it and add what you plan to do. I hope you have a relaxing summer. It won’t be too long until we are back at it again...
