Recently, an online article controversially buzzed around the internet named 23 Things My Boyfriend Better Not Get Me For Christmas. People were outraged. Since when do you get to determine what you receive for Christmas? And since when does someone say if you get me a certain present, I will actually pitch a fit right in front of you?
So to counter that article, here’s a list of 23 things my friends can get me for Christmas.. Whoever has me for Secret Santa, this is your lucky day.
1. A sweater
A sweater like this one from American Eagle. It’s nice, simple, and something I would wear often. It’s on sale for $22.
2. A t-shirt
Like this Vineyard Vines one. Me gusta. Nothing is wrong with clothing.
3. A button-down shirt
Like this from Old Navy for $34.94. I'm telling you, clothing is the answer.
4. A cardigan
From Forever 21 is only $24.90 for current style.
5. Socks
If you buy me socks, I also won't refer to you as my grandmother like the other article did. While it’s not the most exciting gift, it’s something that would get used daily.
You also know you’re growing up when you will willingly accept socks as a gift.
6. Food
I literally love food, if you didn’t know. Buy me anything chocolate, and you’re golden. I will eat it, and in the process of my indulging, I will thank you for this warm chocolatey feeling you provided me with. You’re a keeper.
7. A book
I promise you that buying me a book won’t get you a rude, “so romantic” snark from me. While I don't necessarily want the next Nicholas Sparks book, if it was a book I was interested in, I would more than happily accept it and read it.
8. A massage
Ah yes. Get me a masseuse. From the tension and stress of college, you may as well go ahead and get me a monthly package.
9. Stuffed animals
If you get me this, I wouldn’t thank you for thinking of me as a 5-year-old. If you got me a relevant stuffed animal, I’d put it somewhere or sleep with it, and I would always remember where it came from. It would actually be a pretty cool gift. I would request a nice outfit on the animal, please.
10. Pictures
Make a nice collage of us, and arrange pictures of us and our friends or family together. I’ll hang it up, and I’ll think about you every time I see it -- because you’ll obviously be in all the pictures.
11. An iHome
With wireless speakers, I would use it daily and play some sick beats, yo.
12. Phone cases
From Amazon to other websites and in so many stores, phone cases are an easy buy. Pick out something you think look likes me, and I’ll use it on my phone. They’re typically not too expensive, so you also won’t break the bank here.
13. An extra-long phone cord
Sometimes you just need more space. You can get this one on Amazon for only $11.99. The ultimate charging experience.
14. An iPhone tripod
Admit it, we all love taking videos. With an iPhone tripod, instant and easy stabilization is a must-have. They're available at Best Buy for only $7.59.
15. Touch-screen gloves
When you have to wear gloves and you can’t use your phone, it’s actually the biggest pain. Get these so my phone can be easily accessed, even when it’s snowing.
16. An Ethernet adapter for my Mac
We all know school wifi is slow and unreliable, get me a Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter from Apple for $29.00.
17. An auxiliary Bluetooth adapter for the car
I thought this was literally the coolest thing. Instead of having an aux cord, the future is becoming cordless. This accessory plugs into your aux jack in your car and allows you to connect your phone to it via Bluetooth. I would love this, and I feel like most people who use their aux cord over time they drive would, too.
18. A blanket
I'm constantly cold, so a warm blanket from Kohls would be ideal, and you can provide me with warmth provided by your money.
19. A 32GB SD card
An SD Card will come in handy for me in the near future, and I wouldn’t mind this as a Christmas present. They're pricey enough to be a simple present.
20. A store gift card
Some people really hate the idea of getting a store gift card for someone because it’s not personable. I, on the other hand, am completely okay with that idea. You went to the store, you tried to look, but you just didn’t really know what I would like. Grab a gift card, put some money on there, and you just saved me from having to return something that I didn't like, or wasn’t the right size.
21. A food gift card
Literally even better. While store gift cards are super cool, food is even better. It’s an essential to life. Whether it be to a nice restaurant or a fast food chain, either is acceptable. I will absolutely use your gift card, and think of you when I do. It’s money that you know will be spent.
22. Nothing.
And that’s okay. This article was aimed at gifts my friends can get me. I promise you, if you don't get me a gift, you’ll still be my friend and I’ll love you just as much. I’m grateful for your friendship, and nowhere does it say you must buy me gifts of monetary value.
23. Literally anything you pick out.
I will be more than grateful for any gift you get me. You thought of me, and that’s what counts.
We’re friends. I voluntarily chose you, and you chose me. I’m so thankful for you, and Christmas is a time to show your love and thankfulness through gifts. No matter what you get me, I will love it. I will love it because I love you, and I love having you in my life. I will not leave you, scoff at your gift, or write an article about what you better not get me.
