7 Things I Miss About Living Alone And Having My Own Room

Whether you currently have one roommate, three, or five, I'm sure you have had moments where you just wanted to be alone like you used to be. It's definitely an adjustment learning how to live with other people and not have complete privacy or have your family around. Here are some things that I miss about having my room to myself.

1. Being able to cry if I need to, or have an occasional breakdown.

Let's be honest, we all have mental breakdowns every once in a while. I mean that's what college is for right? Well it's so much harder to have a nice cry when you have people walking in and out of your room. And you can't go to the public bathroom because people are there too. Sometimes I just want to be able to be upset alone, and not have to worry about people badgering me and asking "what's wrong," or "why are you so upset?"

2. Silence.

I miss silence. I miss being able to do my homework in my pajamas and not worry about being bothered. Now I have to listen to my "rain" app just so I can pretend I'm alone while I'm studying. I don't want to always have to go to the library, but I guess in college we have to learn that we can't always have a room to ourselves.

3. Being able to close my door and not have anyone bother me.

Closing doors? Knocking? Privacy? What's that? Remember at home when we could shut our door and know that, for the majority of the time, no one would just walk in without knocking or asking? Yeah, at least for me, that whole concept was thrown out the window when I got here.

4. Having pets.

Wow have I mentioned how much I miss my cat? I mean seriously, not having animals around is one of the worst things about moving to college.

5. Not feeling bad when your room is a mess.

My mess isn't just my mess anymore. Now I feel guilty for it. And not only that, but now my mess is in a much smaller and confined space. There is no room for anything!

6. Not using earphones when listening to music or watching Netflix.

It sounds stupid, but I really do miss not having to search for my earphones multiple times a day. And wearing them for a long time aggravates my ears as well. It was so much easier when I could just put Netflix on my laptop and watch tv while I walked around the room to do other things. I can't do that now because earphones are only so long!

7. Taking a nap whenever I want.

I think this is probably one of the top reasons I miss having my own room. Naps. It is pretty much impossible to be able to fall asleep, take the nap, wakeup when you want to, and feel rested. People are constantly walking through the room, studying, or talking. The light is usually on which makes it even more frustrating. I just miss coming home from school, lying down in my bed, and knowing I can rest for however long I need to without being interrupted or disturbed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
