Just after high school finished one of my best friends left to join the Air Force. He had been planning on joining the Air Force for as long as I had known him. While I was extremely happy for him to finally be fulfilling his dream, I hadn't thought about how much would change about our friendship when he left. Here are 6 things that I want my friend in the military to know.
1. I love every chance I have to talk to you.
I cannot even begin to explain how much I love every video call, phone call, text conversation, or snap chat makes my day. It means so much to me that you can make the time to talk to me as often as you do because I can't see you as much as I want to. Thank you for making the time to talk to me.
2. I'm always here for you.
Whenever you need me, I'm always here for you, no matter what. Even if it is 3 am my time I'm here for you. Also thank you for being there for me and answering my random 1 am calls. I mean really, who else would answer those when they're so busy and not complain at all except for you?
3. I'm so proud of you.
I constantly am telling people about how amazing my best friend is and how proud I am of everything that you do. I am so proud of everything that you have become as well as the amazing organization that you have become a part of over the last year. Thank you for doing everything that you do.
4. Distance is nothing.
I'm seriously so happy about modern technology because it makes it possible for me to talk to you. We can Skype so I can see your face from thousands of miles away and words cannot explain how happy I am when that is possible. Even if it's 1 am, I'm always up for a Skype call.
5. I miss you like crazy.
Seeing you once every eight months is not even close to enough. Thinking that you're leaving for two years soon is not okay with me at all. I don't know what I am going to do without you being here for so long.
And on that note...
6. I'm so excited for the next time that I get to see you.
I may or may not be counting down until the next time that I get to see you, but there's nothing wrong with that. I cannot wait to see you the next time that you come home. Even though I know that it won't be for long it means that I finally get to hug my best friend again.
Thank you for being my best friend regardless of distance, time differences, and schedules. You are such a blessing in my life. I honestly don't know what I would do without you. Even though we can't see each other as much as either of us would like to, I am so incredibly lucky to call you my best friend. Come home soon!
