It's Friday!!!

Things to Help Get Over A Long Week

By Friday, brains everywhere are fried and we are all ready for the weekend. Whether you stay out all night or are lazy with Netflix, you are working off the week. College students understand the sleep-deprivation, stress, and hunger--okay, maybe the last one is just me. While some people may work on that paper due on Monday or study for an exam, many--myself included--will use our Friday and Saturday nights to have fun and de-stress in whatever way works for us. Here are my top things to do when it has been a long week and I need a break:

1. Take a nap.

I realize that some people will gasp at the idea of napping on a Friday because of the "I'll sleep when I'm dead philosophy", but I'm dead tired and a nap will help shake off the week.

2. Netflix.

It doesn't necessarily have to be on Netflix, but pull up your favorite show or the new episode you haven't had time to see and relax. There is nothing like getting lost in the lives of your favorite characters.

3. Dance it out.

Anyone who has seen me dance knows that I can't dance, but whatever it is that a call dancing is a huge stress reliever. Turn up your music and dance out everything that has made your week long. Hey, it works for Meredith Grey.

4. Eat some junk food.

Whoever said that stress-eating was unhealthy may have been right, but they also clearly don't understand how therapeutic it is. Grab some junk food and chow down, you deserve it.

5. Hang out with friends.

This is a personal preference one because I also get wanting to be alone after a long week. If you are up for it, you should hang out with your friends and have some fun, it can definitely make you feel better.

6. Get dressed up and go out.

Again, this one is only for those who want to be around people and is not for everyone. Sometimes just looking good is enough to rebound from a hard week and maybe you will meet some cool new people.

7. Online window shop.

One of the best things to do when your rung-out is to fill endless online carts with things you probably will never buy, because your a broke college student, and dreaming of becoming extremely rich so you can buy everything you want.

8. Read a book.

This is last because sometimes fried brains cannot read or don't want to after hours of reading for classes. That being said sometimes escaping in a good book can help make you forget why you were so stressed in the first place.

Disclaimer: These things will not work for everyone and most people have their own way of reviving themselves after a long week, but if you haven't found something that works for you, try these.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
