Going into the education field, you're automatically judged on why you chose this field. We obviously chose this major for a reason, and we want to be able to pursue this without judgement. This can all be rather annoying and aggravating and I hope that one day all of the family and friends of education majors can stop asking us these annoying/aggravating questions.

1.) "You know you won't be making any money in this field?"

Yes in fact, I am aware that teachers aren't very well paid. If I was doing a job for money I would just skip college and become a stripper, but I want to teach and feel that it won't feel like a "job" necessarily.

2.) "How are you going to deal with children/teenagers all day? I'd kill them!"

Yes, I mean sometimes we might want to kill the students some days but in the end we will always care about them. Myself personally going into high school age education, I'm so excited to work with the teenagers for the rest of my life. I'm excited to teach them about the subjects, life and everything that I can. I feel like we need to put more work into the future generations rather than neglect them.

3.) "You know that field is really competitive? It'll be hard to find a job!"

Yes, I'm aware teaching jobs are a bit scarce, but once you land a teaching spot in a school, you're more than likely able to be there till retirement if you want. There's also always going to be a need for teachers in the world so it doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere.

4.) "You must want to have so many kids!!"

I mean yes, I do want to have kids. But that's not the fact for all education majors, some of us don't want to have kids at all.

5.) "Those who can, do--those who can't, teach."

No. Just, no.

Please stop belittling our major and future career. Obviously, this is what we want to do with our lives so please respect it. We wouldn't be wasting money and time on getting these degrees if we thought all the things you do.
