Time to get jolly!

12 Things To Do During The Holiday Season

There's nothing like the holiday season. White Christmases, sounds of sleigh bells, the smell of cookies in the oven— wait you're not doing any of these? How are you not festive already? If you need a few ideas to get into the holidy sprit, these should turn you into the Holiday Cheermeister you desire.

1. Bake cookies

There's nothing like the smells of cinnamon and vanilla in the oven on a chilly festive day. Make some sugar or gingerbread cookies and bake to your heart's desire! Everything's a little better with icing, right?

2. Make hot drinks

Fancy coffee and tea pair amazingly well with chilly winter days. It's always so nice to take the time and to make a single Keurig brew or watch tea get darker as it steeps. Warm drinks always keep you warm and taste good too!

3. Finish up the decorations

Nothing is better than relaxing in a warm and festive environment. Make sure all the ornaments are hung, stockings are stuffed, and halls are decked! Admiring your hard work

4. Drive around and look at the lights

There's always a bit of child-like joy when it comes to Christmas lights. Take the time to drive around with your friends, family, or significant other and enjoy everyone else's hard work! Oooh, shiny!

5. Make reindeer food

Growing up, my mom and I would sprinkle "reindeer food" out on the lawn on Christmas Eve. The recipe can include oats, glitter, nuts, and M&Ms. The glitter is there so that the reindeer can spot your yard in the night and that Santa can't forget your presents! Here is a link to a recipe!

6. Watch classic holiday movies!

No one can turn down a round of Elf or National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! Make some popcorn and snuggle up with the ones you love!

7. Play in the snow

If you're lucky enough to have snow on the ground, use it to your advantage! Build a snowman, go sledding/skiing, or just make snowballs!

8. Make snow ice cream!

One of my favorite seasonal treats is snow ice cream. My mom found a recipe when I was about 6, so it's definitely an all-time favorite for me. The recipe is super simple and it tastes pretty great.

9. Do nothing!

Sometimes it feels good to just do nothing. Take a day for yourself and start without any major goals to accomplish. Want to watch TV all day? Do it. Want to eat all day? Do it. Want to nap all day? Do it.

10. Complete a book

There's nothing better than the satisfaction of finishing a really good book. Go to the library or a local bookstore and find a book to finish over the course of a week, or the entire break (if you want to choose a book that challenges you).

11. Educate yourself

Learn something new about the people and places around you. During the holiday season, it's a time to reflect and make new, so think about old habits and think about the future. Create a family tree, go through old pictures, watch a documentary— anything to enrich your knowledge and make you a better person.

12. Be festive

Be annoying and dress up in ugly sweaters. Sing your lungs out in Christmas carols. Do whatever your little heart desires.

13. Spend time with family

I know, it sounds overrated. But the times you'll spend with the family are some of the memories you'll cherish forever

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
