I love Thanksgiving. Dedicating a day to eating food and being comfortable with family is basically the ideal day for me. I love turkey, stuffing, veggies, and my own secret recipe mashed potatoes. The only thing that gets in the way of this perfect day is the conversation that happens throughout the dinner. Here is a list of 5 things I truly do not want to talk about this Thanksgiving.
1. The election
My dearest family members, I know you have strong feelings about the result of the election and I promise you no matter which side you feel passionate about, I don’t agree and certainly do not want to hear it. Trump is going to be president. I have no idea how that’s going to turn out because I can’t tell the future. Please don’t ask me what I think, I will have nothing to say.
2. School
Yes, I am still in college and yes I am taking classes that are loosely or not at all pertained to my major. This has been the case for the past three years and I promise I have nothing interesting at all to say about it. It’s school. I study, go to class, go home, do homework, and repeat it all over again. As soon as something changes or I have a graduation date set, I will let you know.
3. What I am doing after collegeI have no idea, Grandma. Yes, it stresses me out. Yes, my classes should be helping me figure that out. No, being a Communications Major doesn’t mean I’ll get paid to talk after college. Frankly, I have no idea what I am going to do and like above I’ll let you know if that changes. I’m stressed, please give me a break.
4. How I look
This is one of those things that my family members love to bring up, if I’ve gained or lost weight recently. The worst part about it is I never notice if my weight has changed, but what does that matter? I woke up, showered, and put on make up to try and look presentable while stuffing my face. This is as good as it’s going to get.
5. Just anything in general that is confrontational between family members.
This is a time to be thankful for each other and what we have. I truly love Thanksgiving and being able to catch up with family and each a lot of food. I really hope that every family has the opportunity to be together and enjoy the beginning of the holiday season. I know I won’t let anything get in the way of me truly enjoying the season.
