11 Things That We Do Daily, But Have No Idea Why

We do things everyday that just don't make sense.

There are things that we do everyday that don't make sense. Some are major, some are minor, but nonetheless we have formed routines, habits, or sayings that just kind of blurb out without our thinking. We have been conditioned to see or feel a certain way towards things. Take a look into our weird little world.

1. Blinkers

We wait to flick on our blinkers until we are halfway into the other lane. People, use your blinker to signal other people you are switching lanes, BEFORE you switch lanes. Get it together.

2. Traffic lights

A yellow light does not mean slow down, it actually means "speed through the intersection as fast as you can without getting hit and before the light turns red".

3. Honesty

We say "Not to sound rude but..." when in reality we are about to unleash our wrath of rudeness.

4. Greetings

"Hey, how are you?" is treated as a greeting, rather than us actually wanting to know how the person is doing.

5. Freedom of speech

"Feel free to speak your mind" really means filter your thoughts before you speak them.

6. We don't say what we mean

Instead we pick the most dramatic statement to get attention or strike a fire and the conversations ends in chaos.

7. Food expeditions

"Where do you wanna eat?"

"Oh, I don't care, wherever"

This conversation always ends in tears or heartbreak.

8. We don't live in the moment

We rush things. In such a rush to get where we are going and take no time to take in the journey. We are sad when they are over, and we suffer for being unable to live in the moment.

9. "Bless you"

We say "bless you"after someone sneezes, but no one ever knows why. While a common belief of this practice originates from times of the plague, it is still a wonder of why we say it and how it came to be. Some say that it originated in Rome when the bubonic plague was raging through Europe. One of the symptoms of the plague was coughing and sneezing. It was suggested a person say "God Bless You" when a person sneezed in hopes that this prayer would protect them from an otherwise certain death. Who knows?! *shoulder shrug*

10. Drinks

Cold drinks, when it's cold outside. Hot drinks, when it's hot. What is life?

11. Rainy days

We drive around with the windows down after it has just rained. Fun little fact, the rain is actually dirty water being discarded by the clouds and it softens the ground to release all the dirty components that exist in nature. So this means that cruising with the windows down after a good rain is actually just asking for sickness and pollution to enter your body. *thumbs up*

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
