They walk where no man nor women have walked before
They’ve seen unmentionable things
They’ve heard the sound of death
Children crying for their mothers and fathers
Mothers and fathers crying for their children
Guns ringing, bombs exploding, gases choking
They’ve seen and heard it all
What’s done is done
Their memories never fade away
Their emotions suppressed
Trained not to shed a tear
They return to society where barely anyone cares
Who really cares about what they feel
What they have buried deep inside
Who they really are
What they were forced to hide
How badly they need a shoulder to just cry
These men and women take to the ground and sky
They protect us with their lives, and yet we can’t even say “Hi”
We must be grateful
We must have respect
We must say “Thank you” to those that protect
Show them that we care
That we still know how to love
Next time you see a service man or woman, give them a hug
Sometimes that’s all they need to feel and remember how to love
So I say this, don’t be rude, don’t be snobby
They’re people too, and they deserve to know they’re not just anybody
Don’t hate, just love
Want to make a difference in their lives
