10 Reasons Why I Joined A Sorority And You Should Consider It As Well
Zeta Tau Alpha

People usually think the worst when they think about sororities. It sucks to say that, but it's true. I'll even admit that I used to be one of the people who thought sororities were filled with rich girls who haze their new members. Then my older friends started joining them, and those thoughts quickly went away. I'm so glad they did too, because I joined a sorority and it's one of the greatest things I've ever done.

1. I was curious

I was terrified to go through recruitment week. It was scary and I didn't know what to expect. Quite a few of my friends back home are sisters in a sorority and I have heard only amazing things from them about Greek life. They love it, so I thought I might too. I was right.

2. The girls were so amazing during recruitment week

Every sister of my sorority that I talked to during recruitment week was so nice and so welcoming. The conversation never stopped. I felt so comfortable and so at home with them.

3. Now that I'm actually one of them, they've become my second family

A lot of people seem to think it's weird that I call the girls in my sorority my sisters, but that's what they are. Not just because we're in the same sorority, but because we've grown so close the last few weeks. I love every single one of my sisters.

4. My sisters are so kind-hearted and understanding

I know that, should I need anything, my sisters will be there for me. They've gone out of their way to make sure I'm okay and I have everything I need.

5. Our philanthropy is amazing

I'm part of Zeta Tau Alpha and our philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Don't get me wrong, every philanthropy on Thiel College's campus have is amazing and a great cause, but I've seen first hand how breast cancer affects families. It's a great feeling knowing that I'm helping someone.

6. It's totally worth paying extra money

You have no clue how many times I've heard, "You're paying for your friends?" Let's get one thing straight, I'm not paying for my friends. I'm paying for amazing experiences and opportunities with my friends. I know my sisters would still love me and want to be my friends if I wasn't part of Zeta. These are memories I'll keep forever, so of course it's worth it.

7. I am NEVER bored

I have an insane amount of hilarious pictures and videos of my sister and I. We're all pretty weird, and we accept each other's weirdness. There is never a boring moment when I'm with my sisters.

8. When you join a sorority, you get to know all the other sororities and fraternities on your campus

I have some type of connection with every single sorority and fraternity on campus. It's actually really cool to have friends in different sororities and frats. You get to know their friends and then you have more friends yourself.

9. There is no judgement from my sisters

My sisters accept me for who I am. I don't have to try to be someone I'm not, I don't have to mold myself to fit how they think I should be. They love me and care about me just as I am and I feel the exact same about them.

10. A piece of me felt like it was missing, and I found it.

As cheesy as that sounds, it's true. I've never felt more accepted and welcome somewhere. I feel whole.

Now, I know Greek life isn't for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that. Don't immediately shut it out though. Try recruitment, you aren't required to join an organization. For me, it was an amazing choice and I've loved every second. You might too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
