Anxiety disorders affects 18% of adults in the U.S. population alone. According to “The Economic Burden of Anxiety Disorders,” a study commissioned by ADAA (Anxiety and Depression Association of America), more than $42 billion a year is spent on anxiety disorders. But this study was published in 1999 so the dollar amount may have very well grown over the years. If you or anyone you know have any type of anxiety there’s an understanding of how intense an anxiety attack can become. There are, of course, many ways to either ease the anxiousness or to calm oneself after a hard episode. Recently, I realized that some of the weirdest videos can help relieve anxiety. DISCLAIMER:These findings are from personal experiences and are in no way a prescription for an anxiety attack. Read the signs and visit with your doctor about them.
“TASTY” Videos
Along with other brands, these recipe time-lapse videos have recently become some of the most shared videos on Facebook. Besides leaving the viewer hungry for the food in the video, they can distract your busy mind when there is some feeling of anxiety present.
Calligraphy videos
Calligraphers like @KINGBLOTTOTHETHIRD on Instagram have gained a lot of followers for their videos showcasing their mesmerizing penmanship. Although they are short 15 second videos, the soft scraping of the calligraphy pen on paper or the streams of ink are enough to put the mind at ease.
YouTube game “play throughs.”
These are videos of someone playing a video game, often with commentary. These videos are perfect to get your mind off stressful thoughts.Sometimes serious and other times hilarious, you'll never know what to expect. Even more interesting are play throughs of games that are weird already.
How It’s Made
I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn how ice skate is made, or an ice cream bar! From bacon to xylophones, there is an episode for almost everything that exists. It helps that the narrator's voice is calming to the ear.
Let’s face it, those with anxiety have brains that work and think very differently than others. You’ll find content much like the content above that soothes you in a way that is sometimes incomprehensible. One of the weirdest videos i have watched is of an aluminum can crusher being fed empty can after empty can. So even if you don't have the money for expensive treatment or are just curious as to what can become a quick relief for lighter forms of anxiety, these videos and more of the same caliber of weirdness may be the answer.
