As the year comes to an end and finals week approaches, students everywhere are hanging on by a thread. The end of spring semester is tough; the weather is beautiful and there is little to no motivation to do schoolwork. Summer is around the corner, but couldn’t come any sooner for the zombie-like students living in the library. However, as stressed out as we all are, it is impossible to be unhappy in a place like West Chester.
Rain, shine or snow, the campus looks beautiful.
It’s hard to ignore the beautiful stone buildings lightly covered in snow in the winter, or surrounded by freshly planted purple and yellow flowers in the spring. In the fall, the trees that line the main stretch of campus make it look like a painting. Getting out of bed and making it to class gets a little easier when you can walk around campus and enjoy the scenery it has to offer.
The Town has anything you could imagine… in walking distance.
West Chester’s Town is unlike any other. From bars to cafes to pizza places that sell slices bigger than your head, you can find pretty much anything you want. Even better… it’s all walking distance if it’s nice out. If you can get past the uneven brick sidewalks, walking through town is an experience in itself. The intoxicating smell of fresh baked goods is unavoidable as you walk passed bakeries with open doors. Sometimes if you're lucky, people are handing out free samples outside of their restaurants. At night the town is filled with people stumbling from bars to pizza places for their late night fix. The bustle of the town is always filled with friendly locals and happy college students, and there really is nothing better.
Students hanging out outside when the weather is finally nice.
Now that it is finally nice out, students are flooding outside into the quads. As you walk to class you can see people playing Frisbee, laying out and doing homework, or tossing a football around. I remember my freshman year; a group of people even brought a grill outside and started making everybody hot dogs and hamburgers. Once it turns into day drinking season, you get to hang out on your front porch, taking in the scenery with all your best friends. Or play games like dizzy bat and corn hole in the backyard of a frat. The sense of community between all the students hanging out outside is unlike anything else, and it makes it hard to ever want to leave.
As I sit here and write this outside of Starbucks, the tables around me are filled with students enjoying their iced coffees and chatting with their friends. The quad is filled with people, and a campus tour is walking passed. I wish I could go tell every single person on that tour to come to school here, because they will not regret it. West Chester has changed my life for the better, and I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. No matter how much of a slump spring semester has you in, walk outside and enjoy the atmosphere West Chester has to offer. I promise, you will not regret it.
