This Is Why I Write

Maybe I’m here for the all right reasons or maybe I’m here for all the wrong. Regardless, I know the following statement is true: We are both human beings made of flesh and bone. This biological trait defines us together as one, but as humans we often tend to stand alone. While standing alone, we often lose our way. Instead of embracing our uniqueness, we embrace conformity and compromise. We lose our identity and become overly compliant to societal norms. When that happens, are we even still human or are we just a well-oiled machine? Don’t you see why we need to stick together? As humans, we need to work together, live together, and be together. Specifically, as Millennials, working together is crucial to our survival -- just like those overpriced coffee drinks we can’t seem to live without.

My name is Adam and I am a 20-something from the Greater Atlanta Area. I recently graduated from Emmanuel College this past May and I am proud to be the editor in chief for this Odyssey group. I want this page to be a place for creativity, self-expression, and honesty. I choose to write for Odyssey because I’m tired of being silent. I write to make a stand and shed light on today’s social injustices. I write to crush normative stereotypes and strive to promote body positivity, specifically male/masculine self-image. I write to empower fellow millennial to be unique and stop chasing after other's standards and expectations. Follow your dreams. Follow your heart. Follow your own path.

Together as one, we can make a lasting difference. In fact, we can be the difference. I write because I am human and so are you. Let’s create something beautiful together.

Cheers,

Adam George

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
