When you're little, everyone from teachers to relatives asks you what you want to be when you grow up. Most kids want to be a firefighter, teacher, doctor, nurse, etc. Then there are the kids that want to be something more - they want to be an artist, musician, actor, or writer. When these kids are asked what they want to be, they are told that it is unrealistic.
I personally don't think that we should be telling anyone that what they dream of doing is not realistic. That kind of comment gives them the idea that they have to settle. It makes them think that they have to do something else that's realistic even though it doesn't really interest them.
You should never let someone tell you what they should do. If you want to act you should act; the same is true if you want to be a teacher. You should do whatever it takes to become what you want. Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they like to do. It makes them happy.
People have no good reason to talk you out of what you want to do. For example, when people say they want to be a teacher, everyone always says "Well why? They don't make a lot of money." What they fail to realize is that sometimes it's not about the money. Another example is when someone decides to join the army; people often say "Well isn't that dangerous?" Yes, it is, but they are protecting us. When people want to perform for people, acting or singing, everyone always says "Well you aren't going to make it, that's so unrealistic."
Your dreams are never unrealistic. You need to go after what makes you happy until you get to where you want to be.
