So about how I and the rest of the class of 2017 graduate in eleven months. Regardless, my time like every other student on hawk hill has been both memorable and impacting. Here are five reasons how SJU has changed my life like so many others before me.
1.The CampusThis campus is gorgeous, has the nicest buildings, and is located roughly ten to fifteen minutes away (depending on traffic) from center city and Manayunk. Basically, it's a combination of suburban and urban smacked into one campus. What more could anyone ask for?
2.The AcademicsI have to say I'm not a fan of some of SJU’s signature courses (Moral Foundations anyone?) However, taking classes within my major, which many can agree with, has changed me along with my peers to view the world in a whole different perspective. Most importantly, taking some classes for my electives allowed me to figure out my other interests, which happen to be my minors now (English and Journalism). This school promotes everyone to explore their interests and for that I’m forever grateful for.
3.The PeopleEveryone at this school is compassionate, hard working, and embodies what the “magis” is; everyone truly lives greater everyday.
4.The FacultyThere is not one professor who has not impacted me in some way. Every instructor truly cares about his or her students and that is rare to find.
5.The ValuesTransferring into SJU for my sophomore year was a huge adjustment. However, this school taught me to be a better person both inside the classroom and outside of it as well. This school truly represents the phrase “set the world on fire” because that’s what every hawk ends up doing once they leave.
Whether you are an incoming student, current student, or recent graduate, remember who we once were; scared, confused, and nervous eighteen year olds.We are now adults who have overcome all of that and we are now adults that have made life long friendships, achieved academic and professional success, and took risks to discover who we are as people through co-op programs, studying abroad in a new country, or volunteering in Philadelphia. I know I owe it all to SJU for shaping me into the person that I am today. Moreover, remember to hold onto everything that SJU has instilled in us all because without it we would not be who we are today.
