The Ultimate Resolution

Above all, remember that you deserve true happiness.

The Ultimate Resolution

With the new year comes countless resolutions.
"I'm going to lose weight."
"I'm going spend less money."
"I'm going to get more organized."
While all of these are good resolutions, most of them fall through halfway through the year. In my opinion, why not make a resolution to change your perspective on life?
The only resolution I made at the end of 2015 was to stop caring about what everyone thought of me. While I still struggle with this going into 2017, I can say that it's changed everything for me and made me so much happier.
This is it and say it over and over to yourself every single day if you need to.
"I will not let peoples' opinions of me or how I choose to live my life influence how I feel about myself."
I still have to tell myself this every single day, but whether it be once or a hundred times a day, it helps me look at my life and see that I'm doing all that I can. This mantra, if you will, has helped me live my life the way I want to live it. Over the course of my life, I've always worried about the opinions of my family or friends and relied on their feedback to make my decisions. Once I lost the friends whose feedback I'd relied on, I felt lost. I realized that I wasn't living the way I wanted to: I was living the way I thought they'd want me to.
2016 was, in fact, the year of "like, realizing things" (Thanks, Kylie).
I realized that life is nothing if you don't do what makes you happy. You can do things that are socially acceptable and that make people around you happy but if you're not waking up excited for what each day has to offer, are you really living the life you want?
Unless your friends/family are genuinely worried for your safety or for your involvement with someone who's toxic, don't worry about what they think. The only person who knows what makes you giddy to see what each day brings is you.
So do what makes you happy. Do what makes your soul sing and what makes your life exactly what you want it to be.
Don't worry about what people think about your makeup or wish you could pull off a purple lipstick. Wear that Jeffree Star color and work it.
Want to cut your hair or get a dozen tattoos? Do it.
Do your family and friends not care for the person you're dating? As long as they make you happy, feel safe, and aren't toxic, then who cares what they say? Love who you want to love.
My point is this: People can have good intentions in giving you life advice or trying to give you their opinions of your life, but many times it's just someone trying to tell you how to live your life in an attempt to control the outcome.
I hope you include something like this into your list of resolutions this New Year and continue to keep remembering it throughout all of 2017.
Happy New Year! Make it your year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
