Have you ever made a mistake on the road and looked out the window to see someone yelling at you while making emphatic hand gestures? And have you felt the ensuing anger that results in you yelling at another driving, engaging in emphatic hand gestures, etc.? Merriam-Webster defines road rage as: "a motorist's uncontrolled anger that is usually provoked by another motorist's irritating act and is expressed in aggressive or violent behavior." Sounds about right, right?
We've all sunk to that level, some of us more than others. (I would be included in the "some of us" in this case). But sometimes it feels well deserved. And this article is for those of you who can relate.
Sometimes you have enough road rage to make you question how nice you really are. Sometimes you have enough road rage you scream at strangers (even though they can't hear you). Sometimes you have enough road rage that your friends suggest you write your next article about it...
Ahem. So without further ado...
The people that cause us to have road rage:
1. The person that doesn't signal.
It's called a blinker, sir. And it's there for a REASON.
2. The person that's on your tail, even though you're trying to merge.
Just GIVE ME A SECOND. (Perhaps I should just tap the brakes to teach you a lesson!)
3. The person that won't let you merge.
But I usually don't sound like an adorable Wilderness Explorer.
4. The traffic that you know isn't the fault of the people in front of you, but you can't stop yourself from being irrationally angry.
Can someone please explain to me: WHY AREN'T WE MOVING?!
5. People who stay right next to you.
Fall back or go forward, this is getting uncomfortable! But if you're like me, when someone starts to pull up in front of you, your inner Lightning McQueen takes over and you feel the need to be the one who is ahead.
6. People who are trying to do things while driving. (This applies mostly to the left lane because some of us have places to be!)
I'm sorry, but NO, you cannot multitask, and you're making the rest of us late. (Also, texting and driving/applying makeup/taking a Snapchat of yourself singing/watching "Grey's Anatomy" isn't safe, so maybe don't do that.)
7. People who are slow. (Even when they aren't multitasking.)
'Nuff said.
Blame it on our competitive natures, or our busy lifestyles and extensive checklists (what can we say? We're driven.), but road rage is a daily struggle. We always try to stop, but we always fail. And when we get out of the car, it looks a little like this:
*Sigh.*
