Most primary physicians will confirm that prolonged stress can make the body vulnerable to illness and various health issues. A vacation is simply a prescription for a hectic lifestyle; it’s the self-hug that says “I value me.” Research has proven that those who take time for a vacation immediately feel healthier. Some will agree that vacations help one to be more productive. It’s like taking a lunch break from work or stepping away from a term paper to nap; when you return to the work in progress you have a fresh perspective that makes you more creative and productive. Therefore, it is important to “pencil in” some leisure on your work schedule. While most of us would love take our leisure in the Cayman Islands, Jamaica or Sicily, our budgets will take an uppercut that could cause a major setback. However, all is not lost. There is a recipe for relaxation that can deliver as much enjoyment as an expensive getaway without sending you home to live with mom and dad.
1. Change your mindset
Don’t think of your economical getaway as dull, boring and a waste of time; instead, think of it as something you’re doing for your health. Paying a small amount of money now to preserve your health is way better than paying a fortune later to restore it.
2. Think small
Yes, I know the famous saying is to “think big,” but when you’re saving, it’s okay to think small. When I say small, I mean local. Skip the pricey airfare, gas up the car and head out to a small town you’ve never explored before. A road trip can clear your head while delivering breathtaking scenery along the way.
3. Surf, surf, surf
Search the internet for small towns with exciting festivals! For example, If you live in Georgia, Fayetteville holds a “Hot Air Balloon Fest,” Savannah has the “Blues, jazz & BBQ,” and Alma has the “Blueberry Festival.” Wherever you live, find a festival that sparks your interest and hit the road! 4. Skip the Ritz
While you probably wouldn’t find an elaborate hotel in a small town anyway, check into a nice bed and breakfast. It would be refreshing to enjoy a quaint cozy setting that could possibly deliver great meals and good fellowship.
It really doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, the goal is to “take care of you,” even on a budget! Aren’t you worth it?
