Whether military, railroad, a job that travels a lot, or a job that's always on call, sometimes the spouse isn't always around. Sometimes they're home for a bit and then before you know it, they're off again. It never seems like enough time with them. Here are some truths that come along with being a spouse whose spouse is always gone.
1. You can never plan anything. Like ever. Here's how my plans go: "I'll be there. Not sure if my husband will be... Maybe he'll be there, maybe he won't. But I will be!" Sound familiar? I feel you. With them constantly on an iffy schedule, it's hard to plan things, doesn't mean you shouldn't still!
2. You've gotten to know yourself. Well. When they're gone, you get to do pretty much anything you want, watch whatever TV you want, eat what you want. All without judgement. It's great. Not great when you start talking to yourself.
3. Starfish. The bed, the couch. All of it. It's fantastic.
4. Skype and texting are BFFs. Your spouse is gone and Skype and texting are your gateways to them. So naturally you've become BFFs.
5. You take Netflix and Chill seriously. Netflix and chill means you chill and watch Netflix - all of Netflix. You're up-to-date on all the latest shows on Netflix and there's no shame.
6. You talk to your animals like humans. If you don't have kids, your animals become your kids. You talk to them like they're humans, they're your company. They're your comfort. And if you have tiny humans running around, you talk to them like they're adults. It's okay - they probably don't understand.
7. Your house is either spotless or dirty. You either clean your house a lot when your spouse is gone, or your don't. No judgement if you don't.
8. Your get to try all of your Pinterest food ideas. No one is there to complain about eating quinoa, so try to your hearts desire! Yumm... Or a miss. Your spouse will never know.
9. You can lounge around - no judgement. PJs all day? No prob. No shower? No one's smelling you anyways. You can do whatever your little heart desires. It's just you, yourself, and your animals (and they'll love you no matter what).
10. You never take for grant time with them. Ever. And every moment gone feels like a decade. But the moment you see them, it makes it all worth it.
11. You appreciate what they sacrifice for you. Because while all of this is going on for you - it's going on for them too.
