As a proud supporter of the Christmas spirit, I have often expressed my love for this holiday. I get super excited just talking about. I can feel my face light up and I can’t seem to shut up. Seriously, beware bringing it up around me! However, sometimes people misunderstand me when I say this.
I love Christmas for many reasons, but receiving presents is at the bottom of the list.
I love Christmas because of the lights.
Nothing is better than getting to see the amazing decorations everywhere! Everywhere you look, there are different lights decorating houses, yards, buildings, light poles, and of course trees.
I love Christmas because of the trees.
I have the biggest obsession with Christmas trees! It is pretty crazy at our house with 5+ kids, but with my roommates and in our office, I was allowed to perfectly place each ornament. If there were ever such a thing as Obsessive Christmas Disorder, I’m sure I would be diagnosed!
I love Christmas because of the snow.
Now I hesitate in saying this because, I don’t like the cold. However, I love how great the snow looks. I love how the snow makes it seem like Christmas, and all the pictures look so much better with a beautiful white covered ground.
I love Christmas because of the songs.
I am the person that puts on Christmas music as soon as Thanksgiving ends (if not a little before). I could sing them forever! They have all kinds of variations of every song and then new ones come out each year! My roommates make me wear headphones because the songs get stuck in their head…
I love Christmas because of the socks.
Now this seems silly, but I love Christmas socks! I wear them year round and putting on Christmas socks can seriously make my day! I don’t care if they have Santa, elves, or snowman, give me Christmas socks and I am your best friend.
I love Christmas because of the break.
I mean, honestly, who doesn’t love whatever short break they get from school or work? Everyone could always use some time away from reality, and Christmas is a great reason for it!
I love Christmas because of the gatherings.
I have a huge family, and Christmas brings memories of everyone getting together. All the cousins playing games and laughing and eating, all the adults talking and watching TV and cooking, everyone being together for the first time in a while. I love being surrounded by the people that mean the most to me. All us girls always fell into conversation like we were never separated, catching each other up on school, friends, and of course boys. Not only family, but I still have groups of friends that get together every year just to see each other. It is so nice to see the people who you once never went without seeing and are now separated by miles if not states.
I love Christmas because of Jesus.
Okay, I know you are thinking “wow, really” but yes. Yes really. Something that we hear almost all month is “Jesus is the reason for the season” and it is so true. I mean how awesome is it that we can openly celebrate the birth of our loving savior, who is a miracle baby. Think about it, not only was his mom a virgin, but his dad stood behind her, and he was born in a stable… It’s kinda a big deal!
Yes, of course I, like every other person, enjoy getting gifts and opening them, but that is not my first thought when I hear the word Christmas. There are so many more things to the season. So next time someone asks what your favorite holiday is, don’t be afraid of the judging looks Christmas lovers. I got you!
