We've all seen them. All of those perfectly taken pictures on Instagram, or attached to articles like this one that actually leave you wondering if something like that could even be real. Those moments that make you put down the slice of pizza you're holding and take a look around you. Those moments that leave us in envy. Those moments are the goals. Actually, more specifically, they're #RelationshipGoals. I think everyone craves their own version of those goals. I also believe that we're all sitting around waiting for the universe to happen to us and don't realize that you have to take chances on people. We need to understand that the universe does not owe us anything. It can put an incredible human being in front of us, but the universe can't make us pay attention to them.
I think the reason that everyone complains so much about the dating scene being so confusing and hard to navigate is because the vast majority of us are too lazy, busy, or just scared of putting actual effort into getting to know another person like we're supposed to. The new trend is for two people to meet, talk for a week or so, and eventually stop talking because you're both expecting to be texted first. Or, maybe the conversation died out, which is bound to happen, but you both don't want to double text. I'm sick of it, I think we're all sick of it. We're better than that. Our generation is actually incredible in so many ways and it's a shame that we're just too preoccupied with ourselves to get to know one another -- specifically, when entering the dating field.
First, I'm going to call out my own gender, so you don't think i'm biased. Guys, please, for the love of God, put some effort into this. Unless it's just some hookup that happened because your friends let you drink tequila at the bar, put effort into what you do. Put effort into being honest with someone else. Do things with her. Netflix and chill doesn't count if you really like this girl. Take this girl on dates. Be original. Be spontaneous (girls love that). Be honest with her. Buy her books (if you've actually read them yourself), or show her new music. Find out what she likes and make an effort to understand why. Maybe you'll enjoy it too. It's lack of effort that causes her not to text you back.
You always wonder how those guys get with those seemingly unattainable girls. Well, I've provided you with your answer. We all have our own dream girl. Well, she'll never notice you if you don't separate yourself from everyone else. Put effort into your appearance (If you own socks with pot leaves on them, please burn them). Females appreciate a guy who actually takes care of himself. Be different. Develop your own style and personality. Find your own hobbies, it doesn't even matter what they are, as long as they interest you. Girls feed on that. They crave a guy who has his own life and interests, and who will share those interests with them, trust me.
Ladies, the same goes for you. If a guy puts effort into getting to know you and he isn't repulsive in some way or another, give him a chance. Do you realize the level of risk that's involved in soberly walking up to a girl and striking up a normal conversation? From a guy's perspective, it's pretty terrifying and requires massive amounts of effort. Why? Because all of that effort generally gets laughed at by all of your friends in a group chat. I'm gonna go ahead and say that happens 90 percent of the time.
However, I think that giving some of those guys a chance is effort enough. Sometimes, texting a guy first or planning your next date with him and putting thought into it is all the effort it takes. It shows that you're confident you can make him happy. That you want to spend time with him and get to know things about him that people don't know. Why he listens to the music he listens to. Why he thinks the way he does about random subjects. If you put effort into getting to know a guy and he still treats you like crap, please move on. It shows confidence.
Yeah, being single can suck sometimes. It's easy to wonder how the hell you're supposed to meet someone in a sea of assholes (both girls and guys). It requires effort to break out of it and find someone. You have to make a real effort to get to know people, and take chances on them. It's not easy to find someone worth keeping, no, and it shouldn't be. But once you find them, all of the effort you put into learning who they are and where they've been is worth it.
Everyone is capable of having those moments that I talked about earlier. Those '#RelationshipGoals' moments. The moments which make you put down the slice of pizza that you started eating again. All it takes are two people who are willing to put their effort into one another. Two people who are willing to be stupid and embarrassing together. Otherwise, you'll be stuck eating a sushi love boat alone, forever.
