Everybody tells you not to do it. They say it's a bad idea and that you'll never end up staying friends with the ones you graduation High School with. I'm here to tell you that in so many ways, everyone who says that is wrong.
When I graduated high school my group of friends and I vowed to stay close and for the most part, we've kept our promise. Initially I didn't end up at the same school as one of my best friends, but after two years of narrowing down what I wanted to do I chose Syracuse and in turn ended up choosing to go to school with one of my closest friends.
The truth is, when you end up going to school with your best friend from home a lot of things in your life begin to change...
1. You have someone who knows about ALL of the skeletons in your closet so forget trying to act 'too cool':
She'll be right behind you ready to keep you humble and share embarrassing stories from the fourth grade.
2. You have someone who loves you more than they love themselves constantly on call whenever you need them:
Literally constantly. Every day, any time, it doesn't matter. She's always there and now is only a 10 minute drive away.
3. If you ever need a study buddy, DON'T ASK HER!
There's a 100% chance that whenever you hang out you'll end up getting nothing done. Need to study for a test? You'll probably end up Pinteresting empty wine bottle crafts together for three hours instead. Want to hit the gym? You'll probably end up going out to eat and watching a movie instead.
4. Your partner in crime is always on call:
If you're trying to go down town or have a spa night for the girls, whatever your poison, you'll always have someone to do it with.
5. The emotional support is unreal:
Whether you're her stand in boyfriend because of a long distance relationship or feeling homesick yourself looking for some comfort, the emotional support you provide with each other is unlike anything else because you're both cut from the same metaphorical home-town cloth.
Friendships aren't perfect, but the truth is I wouldn't trade mine for the world.
