The Truth About Finals Week
The Chive

Finals week is finally upon us. You've been preparing all summer for this one week, hoping that your grade won't plummet based on your final exams. It seems like just yesterday that you started summer semester; excited, nervous, and mostly annoyed that you were spending your summer sitting in a classroom instead of somewhere on a beach. While you woke up early each day to sit in a classroom getting your brain jammed full of information, your friends were posting Snapchat stories from late-night shenanigans and Instagram pictures from their vacations. Even though you've had a boring summer, you've learned a lot. It's almost over. But first, you have to get through finals week. Time to get serious and hate your life just a little bit more.

You don't know stress until you experience finals week. You check your grade a million times, hoping that your teacher will magically put in some extra credit points. You worry that you aren't studying enough. You second guess yourself. You start stressing about how stressed you are. And to make the stress even worse...

You're pretty sure teachers LOVE scheduling tests on the same day. Why is this even allowed? As if you weren't already stressed enough, now you have to try to remember everything that you learned during the whole semester in not only one, but two (or three) classes! Can a brain even hold that much information?

Before starting classes, you had a bedtime of 9:30. You would wake up refreshed and only drank coffee because it tasted good. But now, you don't even know what 8 hours of sleep is. You spend more time studying than sleeping, and there's never enough time in the day to take a nap. Coffee is now a vital part of your life. You're now a pro at running off of 3 hours of sleep (even though you look like a zombie and are a bit jittery from all the coffee you drank).

Because you never get enough sleep, you can't function enough in the mornings to put on matching clothes, and there's no point in putting makeup on because there's not enough concealer in the world to cover up the bags under your eyes. The good thing is that your classmates all look the same way you do, so nobody will judge you...unless you go out in public.

Even though you're stressed, exhausted and your hair is permanently in a messy bun, just know that you can do this. It may take an extra cup of coffee and one less hour of sleep, but you can conquer finals week. Stay organized, stay motivated and stay awesome. And if you need a little something to boost your confidence, just look at this picture of Ryan Gosling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
