The Tragedy of Falling For Someone Who Will Never Love You Back

Falling in love with someone is an amazing thing. It is what the majority of us spend our lives searching for—that one person who completes you, the one person who makes you whole. But what happens when you meet the person who you have been waiting for your entire life and they don’t love you back?

Falling in love with someone who will never love you back is perhaps one of the more painful things that you will ever do. The soul crushing disappointment of knowing that they will never feel the same acts as a weight pushing down on you until one day, you break. The frustration of knowing that your feelings will never be reciprocated act as your shadow, lingering quietly behind you wherever you go. And the heartbreak of knowing that you will never win them over acts as an anchor binding you to your misery.

The tragedy of falling in love with someone that will never love you back is that you become frozen. You cannot seem to bring your heart to move forward, so you wait in hopes that one day they will change their mind and decide to love you too. You wait patiently and silently as other potential suitors pass you by, unnoticed. You begin to think that if they can't love you back then why would anyone else? You begin to compare yourself to the other people they have let into their hearts, and try to make drastic changes in order to gain their attention.

The problem with falling in love with someone who will never love you back is you lose yourself in a dead end race, chasing after something that will always be one step ahead of you. The problem with falling in love with someone who doesn’t love you back is that you are held prisoner by the unreciprocated love in your heart. And as much as you hate them for not loving you, you know that you will never hold them at fault.

The problem with falling in love with someone who will never love you back is that it will take you ages to realize that this is not the kind of love that you deserve. You will choose to remain a constant in their life for far too long, acting as their number one fan even though it nearly kills you. You will settle for sitting on the sidelines cheering them on in all of their life’s endeavors. You will smile through the pain until you are blue in the face, and you will allow the emptiness you feel to push you to the point that you almost break.

The problem with falling in love with someone who will never love you back is that you don’t choose who you fall for. You don’t wake up one day and decide to be miserable. The problem with falling in love with someone who will never love you back is that sometimes your love never goes away, it merely diminishes into a less debilitating love. Into a love that will always remain somewhere deep inside of you, but no longer holds you frozen in place. Slowly and surely your love will release its firm grip on your heart, allowing it to beat again and propel you forward. Slowly the pieces of your heart will fall back together, but you know they will never be the same. But perhaps the biggest problem with falling in love with someone who will never love you back is that you would do it all over again because every single second you spent with them was worth every single ounce of pain.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
