The Time For Madness

It's the best time of the year, and it's not Christmas

March has arrived, and that means plenty of things: warmer weather is approaching, Saint Patrick’s Day and most importantly, March Madness. For some people, this just means the start of stressing over Spring cleaning or midterms. For most of us, the colloquial term describes the sporting universe and its love for college basketball. The terms we all know too well – bracketology, Cinderella teams, buzzer beaters – get thrown around in daily conversation as the constant anticipation for the next game arises. This month of basketball is not only an exciting time for sports fans: it’s sacred. Here are my picks for a range of different categories, including overrated bracket busters and Cinderella sleepers.

Respected but Underrated

UCLA: UCLA has more NCAA D1 basketball titles than any other school in the country, but they don’t lack complete dominance due to a title draught dating back to 1995. However, if freshman guard Lonzo Ball can continue his hot streak, watch out for UCLA making a possible Final Four run.

Oregon: Another #3 seed, the Ducks might not have the respect compared to teams like Kansas and Villanova. However, Oregon’s strong offense and ability to win in big games can take them far this March.

Overrated Bracket Busters

Louisville: Louisville is a solid team no doubt, not to mention their path to going deep in the tournament isn’t as hard as other #2 seeds throughout the bracket. However, they’ve lost three of their last five and could be upset by a talented Michigan squad.

Virginia: Virginia as a #5 seed? Their excellent defense won’t be enough to take them past the second round, where they’ll be outmatched by the SEC’s second best team in the University of Florida

Cinderella Picks

Middle Tennessee State: They were a Cinderella team in 2016 and they could easily do it again in 2017. Expect to see an upset win over Minnesota early on and possibly a Sweet 16 appearance.

Marquette: The Golden Eagles of Marquette have one of the best three point percentages in the country. A second round matchup against Duke will be one for the ages.

The Real Deal

Kansas: The Jayhawks have been lights out this season, beating other powerhouse schools such as Duke and Kentucky. Kansas has a legitimate chance of cutting down the nets this year in Glendale.

Arizona: With the advantage of the possibility of playing a Final Four in their home state, the Wildcats of Arizona have the potential to make 2017 their year.

Which teams will surprise us with their second half dominance? Which powerhouses will drop early in the tournament? We will soon find out. That’s the madness of March

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
