You don't have to believe it but let me assure you something-- your boy can drive anything with an ignition. Naturally when I tell my friends or teammates this or how much I love driving, I'm the automatic DD. You know, I understand the notion that if someone voices their pleasure for something most people are too lazy to do they put themselves in a role, but there really is a difference in riding with no destination and riding with five different directions being thrown in your ear. I'll go as far as to say the ride isn't completely enjoyable even if just one person is in the passenger seat; the ride becomes enjoyable when it's just you, the wheel, your whip, and the road.
I tell you this with the utmost honesty, some of the most memorable nights have came from just simply throwing on a white v-neck and a pair of jeans, grabbing my keys from the nightstand next to my bed, and driving off with no idea as to where exactly I'm headed. It's lost upon me what's so fascinating about the road and the calm of cruising down a dark, dimly lit interstate; speakers resonating the smooth sounds of R 'n B or blaring out the rhymes of whatever rap artist I'm listening too, then again there is nothing wrong with the sounds of yesteryear via classic rock or soul. In midst of all that your hand is calmly yet firmly on the wheel as you feel the engine throughout your arms, you breathe in the honeysuckle (or lavender, if you're Chuck) air freshener, the lights on your dashboard resemble Christmas decorations due to their brightness, your headlights glisten off the asphalt while beaming off those little white spicks placed in between the lane lines, and then theres the roads themselves.
I kid you not, the road has a story for you as you go from exit to exit, veer onto a ramp, or even if you stop at a measly stop light-- actually especially if you're at a stop light. Have you ever took the time to just sit back and observe your surroundings? Not just in an environment you're comfortable with, but in a environment that's relatively unknown to you and may rattle you a little bit. The things that may capture your attention will surprise you, whether that's in a good way or bad way is entirely circumstantial, but either way your imagination is automatically triggered. To this day riding through the Gatlinburg strip remains one of the most scenic and wondrous roads I've ever had the pleasure of cruising; there was this one road in particular that was to the left of my hotel, once you got onto it you kept driving up this hill that has all these curves and turns to it, it's hard not to get mesmerized instead of scared. However the more I try to recall this road, the more I feel like that was on the way to Gatlinburg but hey, that speak volumes to the scenery of one city.
Even though I prefer to cruise during the late hours of the night, enjoying a ride during the day time is equally soothing. Everything is clearly more upbeat, giving your ride a livelier feel that contrasts with the mood of the night drive. You may see joggers, walkers, bike riders, people walking their dogs and what not, no matter what you see on a day drive, it leaves you with this sense of positivity. Sometimes you get those days where the temperature is so right, you don't have the AC on, instead you have the windows down (probably catching the ire of people not appreciating your rambunctious music) and the breeze from the wind hitting your face. Then it's complimented by an open sun roof that allows you breathe in the fresh air and feel the sun hit your body. The sun, who can be your worst enemy at times, shine off of every passing car while hitting the hood of yours so you don't feel left out.
I'm still waiting on the day I get that purple Harley Davidson I long for, so I may shred the streets with shades of velvet, but until then my diamond white 2013 Buick Lacrosse will be more than suitable. As long as it's the road and Chuck.
