The Things They Don't Teach Us In School Are What's Actually Important

For eight hours a day, ten months straight. Students in the United States are taught how to add, write an essay and even how the ancestors of this land were slaughtered and its known as "the greater good."

I was never taught how to find a job, change my car tire, or even deal with my emotions. Some kids are thrown into the world, on their own or close to it and high school can't care enough to bat an eyelash. How do they budget, how should they pay bills, insurance, how do you expect them to eat if the only teachers that they've ever had come from inside your walls and they are forced then to sing the alphabet and pretend like there isn't a bigger crisis in the world.

Some kids had to grow up on their 13th birthday and play a role brought on too early. Some kids work, save money they are told that if they don't buy this particular t-shirt that there will be consequences.

High school, why can't you see that there are kids so depressed because they don't know where their next meal is coming from. Cant, you see the kids that are struggling to stay warm and how to them it's not only the temperature that's cold but the entire human race.

Kids aren't taught how to deal with the death of a parent when they've got no other family. They aren't taught that every 6000 miles you need an oil change. They don't know that life insurance is really really important.....But they do know what a quadratic is.

And, the Board of Education and school system hears this slander against them. They refuse to make a move.

It is sad when we live in a society controlled by the scrutiny of the American public school system. It's almost like everything our generations will ever be is in the model of the most corrupt places on earth.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
