The word “change” defined by the dictionary app on my computer is – to make or become different. Now, “change” is one of those words that can make you cringe one second, and excite you the next.
It’s a verb that is welcomed by some and denied by more; it’s a six-letter word that can completely turn your world around. And the most annoying thing about change is that it is the only constant thing in life.
Everything will always be changing – nothing stays the same. It's one of those things you can count on.
Recently, I have been confronted with decisions that will be the cause of massive amounts of change. I’m transferring to a four-year university in the fall and it will massively change every aspect of my life.
While a large part of me is excited – like extremely excited - an equal part of me, (minus five), is scared AF. Truly. I’m excited to be moving out of my hometown and being in a new environment, seeing things other than the desert is a definite upside.
I’m excited to be learning new things and meeting new people. I’m excited to be in my own space, and really getting the chance to explore new opportunities. But, that doesn’t take way from the scary. I’m scared that I won't succeed the way I want to. I’m scared that I’ll be so incredibly far away from my best friend. I’m scared that I just won’t fit.
All of this excitement and fear is a part of the concept of change, and everyone goes through these moments. These moments of uncertainty and unpredictability are the moments where we are truly tested.
Our adaptability is tested; we are given an opportunity to understand who are in moments when we think everything is falling apart. And those moments are so crucial to people we will become in the future, they are a kind of testament to our future selves.
The thing about change is that it is constant – it will always be happening. While it may not seem like there are any positives to whatever change you may experience I advise you to look at the good in change. Its normal to be scared and sad and against every idea of change but with an open mind you may see goodness in it too.
