Why I'm so excited over the chamber choir's summer

For most of us, our summer vacations were fairly typical. School is out, so we relaxed a little, worked a lot, and loved every minute of it. If we had to answer that typical question of how we spent our summer vacation, I can't think of most accomplishments that could top what the chamber choir did.

This grand break held a grand adventure for Clarion's choir. They went on a European experience like no other. They traveled to Wales to perform at an international competition. If that wasn't cool enough to go on a trip where people got to sing and enjoy some of the many wonderful sites that is offered, they managed to take third. That's right, they were the third best group in the world in that contest. Not just regional or state, the entire world.

I originally meant to make an article about them before they went on their trip because they needed donations. Unfortunately, that didn't happen because my summer has been incredibly busy with work. I'm lucky to remember if it is Friday night and have my articles in on time. On that note, I apologize to them. I am writing this article to point out just how wonderful it is that they were successful overseas.

With the school deciding to phase out their music program, it is nice to see that Clarion students are incredibly talented. In fact, their choir director was someone who was a math professor at the university. He just so happened to also have a minor in music, as well.

Since I know a few of the choir members, this is exciting news. Friends, even a fraternity brother, went to Wales and ended up placing at an international event. Classmates of mine went on a musical adventure that they will never forget. It is moments like this that make me proud to be a member of Clarion University. When Clarion succeeds, I get the biggest grin on my face. A small town college like Clarion making a big splash on an international level? That's as awesome as when one of our athletes goes on to win gold in the Olympics, play in a Super Bowl, and coach one of the most dominate programs in NCAA basketball, but this accomplishment is a little more special in my opinion. Athletics are cool, but music is refreshing. It is almost as refreshing as intellectual accomplishments. After all, Clarion is well-rounded, shouldn't their accomplishments be?

Congratulations to the Chamber Choir. What you have achieved is what makes me proud to be a golden eagle. Keep on flying my musical friends!
