The Summer At Rutgers: Which Student Are You?

It's halfway through July and all us college students are itching to get back to our respective universities to frolic around fraternities and see our best friends every day. But if you go to a school like Rutgers, with an in-state population of 85% and where most people live less than half an hour away, you've been enjoying the best parts of college since the end of May. And of course, you bring all your friends that go to different schools because you can't help but show off how great it is.

There are a few types of students at Rutgers in the summer and it's guaranteed that each of you Scarlet Knights fit into at least one of these molds:

The Out of State Student:

If you're like me and you're out of state, you crave to be at Rutgers every weekend. Even though it takes an hour plus to get there. And if you're working, then you have to rely on your schedule two weeks in advance to actually make it to New Brunswick. You miss Jersey more than ever and you're dying to go back in August.

The "I Live (Roughly) Twenty Minutes Away" Student:

This pretty much covers more than half of the students that I know. You wake up on the weekend, or weekdays, and think "hmm, maybe I'll go to Rutgers today". While the rest of us plan ahead, you happily treat the university like your backyard. The jealousy is real.

The Internship Student:

So you're in New Brunswick for the summer, probably living in a house or your respective sorority or fraternity, and you're killing it in the city. Whether it's close to home or the Big Apple, you have the best of both worlds, even though real life and growing up is stressful sometimes. But you have that steady nine to five and an awesome party/bar scene on the weekend.

The Summer Classes Student:

No one WANTS to take classes during the sessions in May through August, but sometimes we have to. And it's really not that bad. Usually, courses are easier during the summer months and you also get ahead on credits. Don't worry. In the long run, it's perfect. Plus you have an excuse to return to the best state school in the country every week.

The "I'll Totally Come This Weekend... but Doesn't" Student:

We love you still, but we miss the crap out of you and hate you for flaking. We haven't seen from you since the beginning of May and only hear from you occasionally in group chats unfortunately. Don't miss out on the incredible experiences you could be having at Rutgers. Take advantage.

The Alumni Student:

You just graduated or recently graduated, and you miss college like crazy. It feels weird not going to Queens on the weekend or getting a crisp from Hansel at 3:00 AM, so you take every opportunity that you can to visit your alma mater. Your life advice to incoming freshman: don't miss out.

There you have it, a fantastic mixture of the most fantastic people that I, and everyone else, can't wait to return to in the fall. Bless you Rutgers for being so live in the summer; this makes up for the RU Screw.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
