Millennial Lingo: The Struggle Is Real RN

Let me break it down for you, as a millennial, we have created an entire new way to communicate via social media and texting. It’s like a mixture of words, abbreviations and phrases. If you’re not feeling hip enough, or quite frankly if you don’t understand something, read the list below of some of the more popular terms and phrases.

On Fleek or On Point

Meaning: you have a quality of being that is perfect. Everything can be on fleek if you’re having a good day.

Eyebrows on fleek. You are on fleek. This marg is on fleek. Outfit on fleek!


I can’t

Meaning: Wow or I can’t handle this anymore.

Person: How are you doing today? Me” I have so much homework, I literally can’t even right now. Person: OMG I'm sorry.


Same

Meaning: me too or I’m in the same boat.

Person: I went too hard last night. Me: Same. Same.

Person: I can’t handle life right now. Me: Same.

Person. I feel so fat right now. Me: Same.

Person. I want a margarita right now. Me: Same.

Too Hard

Meaning: You went all out –– you raised the roof.

I’m not going out tonight because I went too hard last night.


It’s Lit

Meaning: the atmosphere is fun. Everyone is having a good time.

Person: How’s the game? Me: It was lit, we just beat the No. 3 best ranked team in the nation, nbd. Person: Dang!

Bless

Meaning: a term used in reply to something that is great.

Person: I bought you a margarita. Me: Bless

Professor: Class is cancelled today. Me: Bless

Netflix n Chill

Meaning: Not watch Netflix and hook up.

Boy: Do you want to Netflix n chill later. Girl: Maybe, if pizza is involved.

Squad or Fam

Meaning: a group of friends

Hey squad, let’s go out tonight.

Suh, Dude

Meaning: Hello. What’s up.

Person: Suh dude? Me: nm, just chillin wbu?

Slay

Meaning: You killed it. You conquered. You accomplished something. You did a great job. You dropped the mike. You look amazing.

Person: I got a 100 on my test I thought I was going fail. Me: Slay.

A person can simply, slay.

Beyoncé slays.



YAAAAAAASSSSSS

Meaning: an extreme word of excitement.

Person: Drinks a are half priced. Me: YAAASSSSS.



Too Turnt

Meaning: I am having a lot of fun. I will regret this tomorrow.

I got too turn last night.

Abbreviations

In some of the examples above, I used abbreviations. Here are the meanings:

Wyd: What are you doing?

Omg: Oh my Gosh

Hmu: Hit me up

Friend: Let’s go out later. Me: Ok, hmu

AF: As (insert F word)

I’m bored af.

BC: Because

RN: Right now

Person: are you doing anything, rn? Me: nope

TN: Tonight

Person: What are you doing tn? Me: Drinking margs.

NBD : No Big Deal (used sarcastically sometimes)

WBU: What about you?

Margs: Margaritas

K: is a sassy term used for give me attention, when someone doesn’t reply or when someone is mad.

Well, there you have it folks, the lingo of The Millennial.
