We all go through the ups and downs of going home for winter break. We can’t wait to be done with finals and to catch up on sleep, but one month seems to drag on, and we wish we were back at school. Here are the many stages of going home for winter break.
1. The week before you leave.
This is that feeling where all you can think about is watching Christmas movies on your couch at home, eating home-cooked food, and seeing your dog. You cannot wait, the days seem to take forever, and you’re exhausted from the stress of finals.
2. Two days before you leave.
This is when the anxiety hits — packing, having to answer the annoying questions: how are your grades, do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, are you working out? This is when you realize maybe I want to stay at school? But you realize home-cooked meals are worth the annoying questions.
3. You're home!
This is the best day, you get home and your mom pampers you with your favorite meal, your room is clean and your dogs are so excited to see you! This is the stage where you think “Why did I ever leave home?” In a few days you’ll remember.
4. Sleep.
The period of a few days where you spend the entire time in your bed catching up on all the sleep you’ve missed while you’re at school, this may be the best stage of the entire break.
5. Friends.
The catch-up stage of the break, you get to see all your friends from home who you’ve missed for four months. For some it may be awkward realizing you’ve grown apart, but for most it’s a time to reconnect and see everyone!
6. Christmas.
Yes woo Christmas, need I say more? This day is fun as always, and full of interesting family interactions… but it always makes for a good story.
7. New Year's Eve.
This is the closest you get to a college party while you’re at home. It’s fun seeing your friends all together, but also funny to see who’s still stuck in high school.
8. The aftermath.
Christmas and New Year's is over, a lot of your friends start going back to school and you’re stuck in the in between phase. You start to go stir crazy, and count down the days until next semester starts.
9. Netflix.
Your friends are gone, so Netflix becomes your friend. You’re addiction gets out of control and you begin to breeze through seasons of shows waiting to get back to school.
10. Leaving.
You can’t wait to get back to school, but now you're used to your mom doing your laundry and cooking meals and you don’t know how you’ll survive. School and syllabus week will be fun, but you still shed a little tear having to leave home again.
