It seems like this time would never come, but winter break is here at last, and it's time to go home. Break will be filled with ups and downs, but here's a little timeline of the stages of winter break and the feelings that you will experience during this extremely long month.
1. Driving Home from School: Excitement
Finals are finally over and you get to be reunited with your dog, home-cooked meals, and most importantly your bed. It's time to relax and enjoy being with your family and friends and you could not be more excited.
2. First Week Home/Christmas: Happiness
You could not be having a better time seeing your family and friends and catching up on everything that's happened during the semester. And what's even better—it's Christmas and that means everybody is in a good mood giving presents and singing Christmas carols. You have not even thought about schoolwork, and it is just awesome to stay in your pajamas all day and watch Netflix.
Second Week Home/New Year's: Sullen
Christmas is over, which gives you a bit of depression, but New Year's is coming up! You are now constantly thinking about how you would much rather be at school with your friends going to frat parties and bars instead of waiting five hours before the ball drops to decide what you're doing for the night—which is hanging out with your friends in a basement drinking cheap champagne. It's time for syllabus week to come ASAP.
Third Week Home: Ultimate Boredom
Well now that everything fun is over, you cannot wait to get back to school. You are finding yourself looking at pictures from first semester and wishing you were back at school instead of driving around endlessly trying to find something to do. You miss living with your friends and being able to do whatever you want. It is time to go back to school. Who knows, you may even be planning a meetup with your friends in the city because you desperately need to get out of the house.
Fourth Week Home: Ecstatic
You're preparing a playlist for syllabus week, picking out your outfits for every night, and texting your friends a countdown of days until you're back together. You're almost there, and you could not be happier to get back to school even if it means doing homework.
Hopefully, these next four weeks will be fun and relaxing even though my friends and I already have a countdown ready. Enjoy being home, and prepare yourself for another awesome semester.
