The Reality of Being a Junior in College

The struggle is real, y'all.

The Reality of Being a Junior in College

So it’s your junior year of college and it’s finally hitting you that you only have two years left before you enter the real world. You learned from your mistakes after the blur that was freshman year and are now letting the reality of being a junior hit you. You can no longer do half the things you could your first year of college (dance on tables, make it to your 8:00 am class after going out the night before, or wearing anything size small) and you feel old. The time has come to get your life together and be an adult. Kinda. There are a lot of scary moments that make you realize you're a junior. Some of these include when...

  • You start hearing of people getting engaged and you aren’t even surprised about it. But honestly, how is this possible? We were just in high school! (3 years ago)

  • You no longer have time to go out 4-5 nights a week like you did freshman year. Say adios to T-shirt Tuesdays and Wine Wednesdays. Well, okay, maybe not T-Shirt Tuesdays.
  • You don’t think you can even physically stand going out as much as you did freshman year, and choose to stay in and watch a movie instead.

  • People no longer ask you if you're in high school anymore. Thank god.
  • You spend less money than you used to. Or at least are now realizing that you need to stop spending as much…Chipotle though.

  • You try to look for a job to help your bank account get out of the negatives. (Then proceed to apply to every restaurant and bar in Athens-good luck).
  • You’d rather stay in and have a girl's wine night than hang out with drunk people downtown.

  • You have zero business attire and start panicking knowing that you will need it for that internship you’re trying to get.
  • You feel awkward going to a social because you know you’ll be the oldest one there.

  • Being 21 doesn’t seem like that big of a deal anymore.

  • You stop ordering your sorority t-shirts because you know you won't wear them for much longer.

There you have it. These are just some of the many struggles of being in your junior year of college. To the freshmen and sophomores out there, you still have time! We’re all jealous of you. While we're breaking our backs trying to get a last minute internship, go to those socials and talk to the freshman boys while you still want to. The time will come when you will look back and regret everything you ever did. But for now, keep dancing on those tables at Bourbon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
