9 Reasons Why Junior Year Is Actually The Worst Year Of College

You’re in between all the years and you have no idea what to do. Freshman year is all about getting used to college. It’s a year of excitement, opportunity, and maybe, being a little rebellious. Sophomore year is your comfort year. You have a solid friend group, probably joined a club or Greek Life, and you still enough time to enjoy college. Senior year is your senior year. You have already accepted that it’s your last year and that you’re graduating so you’ve decided to live it up. So what’s junior year then?

Well, my fellow third-years, junior year is the year you stressful and tiredly question everything.

1. You Kind Of Want To Dance On A Frat Table And You Kind Of Want To Watch Netflix.

One thing about Junior year is you’re not a freshman anymore and you’re not a senior. You have that “I’m done acting like a freshman at parties, I’m staying in and watch Netflix” attitude going, but at the same time you also have the, “My college years are running out, let’s get dressed up and go dance on a frat table!” mentality as well. It’s a constant back and forth struggle that takes all week to decide.

2. If You Are Anything Like Me, All Your Friends Are Turning 21 Before You.

While you’re debating going to that frat party or staying in, you forget that all of your friends turned 21 way before you and are leaving you to go to the bar. Which makes you decide to just give up and pull out Netflix for the night.

3. You Can No Longer Skip Class.

Let’s be honest, how many of you had a general education class that you never went to? You barely knew the professor and the professor barely knew you. It made it pretty easy to decide not to go to class, if you didn’t feel like it.

Now that you’re in your main major classes that have all the same professors, that know your name, who you sit with, who you talk to, if you’re failing or passing history, where you live, all before you do, you can no longer skip that class that you are too tired to get up and go to. They’ll always know. Hello 8ams and three-hour night classes...

4. You Are Literally Tired 24/7.

Out of nowhere you go from taking fairly easy classes to taking 300 level classes, being president of some club, balancing a job and taking care of those hamsters you thought were a good idea to buy last year, and you no longer know what sleep is. It has become normal to function off of 4-hours of sleep. Even after you spend those nights in watching Netflix, you never seem to be able to recover from the junior year sleep deprivation.

5. You Think About Dropping Out Every Day.

Dropping out of school will just get rid of all the junior year stress, which sounds like heaven right now, but you only have a year left so you might as well just stick it out. Just try to keep your sanity.

6. All Your Friends Start To Butt Heads.

All those best friends you made throughout your two years of college are now all in their junior year as well. You quickly learn that tired and stressed out people do not mix well. You end up biting each other's heads off because you are so done with school and too tired to try and fake that you actually are fine and have your life together.

Though, you eventually make-up and lean on each other, because at the end of the day they’re your best friends and you couldn’t make it through junior year without them.

7. One Word: Internships.

You now have to prepare yourself to not only balance studying, classes, an officer position and keeping your hamsters alive, but also, entering the stressful world of interning.

8. You Are Constantly In A Panic Over Only Having A Year Left.

All these thoughts start popping into your head, “did I miss out on any opportunities?”, “I only joined one club!”, “I am wasting my college years!”, “did I even pick the right major?!” Which makes matters worse because you start acting on those thoughts, which usually ends up being your breaking point.

9. Hearing Those Lovely 11 Words From Your Advisor.

“You aren’t going to be able to graduate in four years.”

*Cue eye-twitch*

Hang in there my fellow juniors, we’ll get through this together

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
