The Reality of Donald Trump

There is a stark contrast between the person who Donald Trump says he is and the actions that show who he really is.

The Reality of Donald Trump

Donald Trump, before the start of his political campaign, believed that his show, The Apprentice, was the number one show on television when in fact it wasn’t even the number one show on Mondays when it aired. When confronted with this fact he merely shrugged and said, "That was what I was told." After some of the most erroneous claims by the Donald, I am left wondering who it is exactly that “Mr.” Trump gets his information from. In fact, at this point, I am pretty sure he is simply making this shit up… on purpose.

Donald Trump’s numbers continue to rise in national polls despite his latest calls for the halt of all Muslim immigrants into the country. In reaction, the white house declared Trump disqualified from the race, and even Paul Ryan, the newly appointed Republican Speaker of the House, harshly criticized him saying “This is not conservatism.”

Trump must be wearing a pretty heavy duty bullet proof vest. Bullets not only bounce off of him but land directly in the chests of the very people who fired the guns. His numbers have soared since those statements. A new poll conducted by CBS News found Trump’s numbers climbed to their highest point throughout the race. At this rate, Trump could say he has better hair than a dying kid with cancer and his numbers would still go up. They would go up for a very specific reason.

Trump is a “Washington Outsider” or at least, that’s how he paints himself. He is not a politician and that’s what people love about him. “I’m not a politician. Politicians are all talk and no action” he said in an interview with CNN. He is a “businessman” whose mouth is a loose cannon and for the last six months, he has done nothing but fire away.

The New York Times took note of this and ran a piece about the use of expletives throughout the campaign trail. The piece called Trump a “trendsetter” an effect that has rubbed off on the other candidates who seek the kind of attention only Donald can muster. Trump has even used it as a weapon against his opponents who have followed suit. His campaign claiming their use of certain choice words is only an attempt to “copy anything he says” because they “admire and worship [him].”

These remarks serve Donald Trump’s war on political correctness. Colby Itkowitz of the Washington Post points out that “Trump’s use of the term is tapping into a deeper public gripe that language is policed by the liberal elite.” Trump is building off of growing concerns and fears of the political right that their first amendment rights are being taken away from them. Trump is their defender from political correctness. “The paradox is that when those who are offended by Trump continue to push back and express outrage, they boost his support by giving credence to his claim that First Amendment rights are at stake.”

Trump has unknowingly shot himself in the foot when he baselessly called for the closure of the borders to all people who associate themselves with Islam. Claiming to be a champion of the first amendment, he proved himself to be merely taking advantage of the portions that directly benefit himself (in typical business man like fashion) while ignoring the portions that state that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." This is not Trump combating Islamic extremism, but Islam itself.

When asked how his plan would work Trump responded "A customs agent "would say 'Are you Muslim?'" And if the answer is yes, the traveler would be turned away." This does not stop extremists. Trump has also claimed he would force Muslims to register and that the government would monitor "certain" masques. Thus, his war on political correctness was nothing more than a sham aimed at garnishing the attention he so craves. He has no regard for this countries laws. He means only to use them as they directly benefit himself.

His “ideas” have been nothing short of disastrous. First he called out the 11 million or so illegal immigrants in the US as being rapists and criminals. A claim completely unfounded and contradictory to the facts. Despite the surge of illegal immigration, crimes within that group have fallen by 48%. Then he claimed the Muslims were gathering in mass to parade in the streets after September 11, 2001.

Which it turns out where a handful of maybe eight men on a roof top in New York. Then he re-tweeted a picture which claimed that 81% of white people that are murdered are done so by black people. When in reality the number is 80% of white people killed are killed by other white people.

These are not innocent white lies. They are very serious lies built upon mongering hate against racial minorities in the United States. They have very real consequences like dividing families whose children are US citizens but whose parents will be deported under Trump’s immigration plan. A plan that would cost tax-payers as much as 900 billion dollars, not including the major hit the economy would take at loosing almost 6% of its makeup according to a CNBC report. Then he plans on cutting taxes by nearly 10 trillion dollars. It would seem Mr. Trump has a knack for unfeasible ideas, including building a wall funded entirely by the Mexican government along our southern boarder.

It means refusing to let in thousands of refugees who have suffered unimaginable horrors and who have lost everything including their own families, due in part to the irresponsible polices enacted by a failed administration, from finding refuge. Despite Trump's claims, our government does know what it is doing. According to a CNN report refugees must go through a rigorous 18 to 24 month vetting process (one that takes longer for Syrian refugees due to security concerns) in which they must go through "Several federal agencies, including the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the Defense Department, the National Counterterrorism Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Mr. Trump puts so much emphasis on our boarder would it not be easier for a member of ISIS to simply just walk across it and skip the whole process. Not to mention that the whole reason for Trumps statements was in reaction to the San Bernardino shooting in which the man was a US citizen and not a refugee.

The truth is not the point for Donald Trump, fear is. and he will manipulate your fears and anxieties if it means getting himself elected. He will lie to you and say your streets are not safe so long as Muslims and illegal immigrants run rampant upon them. So long as Black people are the major cause of death among white people. In this regard ISIS is Donald Trumps greatest political ally. As long as he has them, he has a chance to win.

Trump's most attractive feature is his self-proclaimed "leadership". It’s what people have been craving for in this country what they have been most deprived of in Washington. People are tired and quite frankly scared at the immobility of our elected leaders. Their failure to act places the entire country in danger. ISIS continually threatens the places where we work, eat, and even live.

They truly believe in equality in that it does not matter to them what race, religion, or sexual orientation you subscribe to only that you bleed and it is they who inflict the wound that kills you. It is this that Donald Trump takes advantage of. He plays on your fears and proposes irrational solutions to complicated issues he is uninformed on. This is how dictators are elected.

The point I am attempting to make is that Donald trump is fake. A brilliant politician who has convinced his supporters he is not. He says politicians are all talk yet that’s all he has done. His ideas are dangerous and from his mouth, he spews lies of racism and hatred. His purposes are self-interested, and he embodies all the “virtues” of a capitalistic driven consumeristic society. This country was built on a commitment to freedom and an idealism that strives to protect all people under their “unalienable rights.” An ideal Mr. Trump threatens to destroy with each vile word that is uttered from his nefarious mouth. So often we have failed at this endeavor and it because we elect “leaders” such as Donald Trump. Let us no longer feed the ego of an attention hoarding reality TV star masquerading as a political christ figure. It is time to fire Donald trump. The best way to approach this is the same way we approach his show, by not watching it. We need to stop listening and let him fade into the obscurity he so fears. The reality of Donald Trump is that he is not real.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
