A little party never killed nobody...

The Realities Of Syllabus Week

The best part of coming back to the school is the first week of classes. This week is absolutely no joke. It's Syllabus week. It's hands down one of the best weeks of the entire academic year. If you're lucky, you won't have any assignments due the first week. However, if you do, it's bearable and you will be able to finish it quickly. The rest is history.

This week dramatically tests your multi-tasking skills, planning skills, as well as recklessness skills. It's bittersweet with your highs and lows.

Here's a list of the realities students face during syllabus week.

1. The Reunion.

2. Going grocery shopping is a cruel and instant reminder of how poor you are.

3. The dreadful alarm setting.

4. Scouting out all of your professors to see if you need to switch into a new section.

5. Skimming through the syllabus and thinking it’s not going to be a bad class.

6. Calculating how expensive your book total is going to be for the semester.

7. Telling yourself it’s time to get your life together and to do better this semester.

8. Getting that text of the first party of the semester.

9. Then soon enough have plans for every night of the week.

10. Checking your email and seeing your one professor already assigned an actual assignment regardless of still going over the syllabus.

11. Finally going to your last class you haven’t gone to yet and they jump right into the course.

12. When you realize your tolerance has gone soft during break once you’re pre-gaming.

13. Telling your liver it can handle the insanity.

14. Before you know it it’s Sunday and you think you might be experiencing death.

15. Actually reading the syllabus thoroughly and realizing that it will indeed be a rough class.

16. Discovering that attendance isn’t mandatory and debating if you should be a good student and set your alarm.

17. It’s the second week of the semester tomorrow and you just pray and hope that you’ll survive and pass your classes.

18. Since it's the second week of classes, there's no need to get dressed for class anymore.

19. January is just not your friend when you're in the middle nowhere.

20. Getting that call from your family asking how your first week of classes went.

So good luck to all the college students, near and far. Syllabus week comes twice a year so take full advantage of it and have fun with no regrets. Okay, well, maybe one or two.

Just remember, you're in college pursing an education. Don't mess it up entirely. Set the right tone for the semester and you'll be just alright with good times, good vibes, and good grades.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
