On July 14, 2015, Universal Pictures made everyone's dreams come true. They answered everyone's prayers for another piece of comedy gold. Universal uploaded a video to their YouTube channel, but it wasn't any ordinary video, "oh no." It was the trailer for the new movie "Sisters" starring the queens of comedy, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
I'm not sure what's more exciting: the fact that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are going to be in another movie together, or the fact that this film is being produced during my lifetime. My children will hear about this. My grandchildren will hear about this. I haven't been this excited for a movie since the cinematic masterpiece that was "Toy Story 3."
Since the two women left Saturday Night Live their careers have been anything but boring. Amy just finished her run as the waffle-loving, hyper-energized deputy director Leslie Knope on the NBC hit "Parks and Recreation"and Tina has finished her run as the hilarious, creative and kind writer Liz Lemon on the NBC hit "30 Rock". Amy and Tina gained popular recognition for their reoccurring roles on SNL playing political figures Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Additionally, these two besties have had the honor of hosting the Golden Globe Awards for two years in a row and will be hosting the show again in 2015.
These two have been in movies together like "Baby Mama," which was released in 2008, and the more important cinematic masterpiece that was "Mean Girls," released in 2004, which Tina wrote. Besides brief cameos in other comedies, it's been way too long since these two have been in a film together. I'm angry about it. The whole world is angry about it, but be angry no more my friends! Universal has blessed us with the ultimate gift: another Poehler/Fey collaboration!
"Sisters" is the story of two very different sisters coming together to throw one last rager in their childhood home before it's sold by their parents. So not only are these two going to be on the same screen together again... they're playing sisters! I'm already laughing. And crying. I'm going through a lot of emotions right now.
In addition to these two lovely leading ladies, there are some great cameos in the film made by Poehler and Fey's SNL buddies. For example:
Maya Rudolph – You may recognize her from "SNL" where she portrays the queen of pop herself, Beyoncé, or the blessing that was "Bridesmaids," where she starred alongside fellow "SNL" legend, Kristen Wigg.
Bobby Moynihan – The actor from "SNL" who portrays the always hilarious and inappropriate Drunk Uncle, or the voice of Chet from "Monster's University."
Kate McKinnon – You know her from "SNL" where she gained worldwide recognition for her portrayal of Justin Bieber in skits about his many antics, and will be starring in the new all-female remake of "Ghostbusters."
I think I speak for the whole world when I say that this was a long time coming, ladies. Keeping us waiting this long was not only unacceptable, but just downright inappropriate. However, all is forgiven, because I know this film will be comedy gold and I will see it eight times in theaters before it's released on DVD. Not only are these two of the funniest women in the business, but these two are best friends. There's not a lot I wouldn't do to get in on that friendship, and I can't wait to see it play out on screen again! "Sisters" will be released December 18, 2015, and I will be counting the seconds until then.
