This past Friday, May 27, marked two weeks since I have arrived home from college for the summer. Already, I'm having mixed feelings about being home from the summer. It's great to be home, but there are some things I can only experience at college.
Pros
1. Reuniting with old friends.
When I'm at college, I definitely miss my friends from back home. Although I made new friends, there are still bonds that I have with people here that won't change. During the summer, there's plenty of time to catch up and do lots of fun things together.
2. Home-cooked meals.
Whatever college or university you go to, I can assume that the food there is nowhere near as good as home. My mom is a fantastic cook and I'm so happy I have her cooking for the summer.
3. No classes = An abundance of free time.
The great thing about college is that there isn't required summer work for your classes, meaning you have a whole lot of time to do whatever you want. This can mean laying in bed and watching Netflix, sunbathing by the pool, or going to a local city with friends and/or family.
4. Going back to work.
Since you have a lot of free time and want to do things that cost money, it's important that you have a job in order to make money. I plan on working a ton this summer so that I can save up for things I want to do in the future.
Cons
1. I miss my college friends.
I've made some wonderful friends at college this past year, and sadly, some of them live far away from me. Although we keep in touch via texting and social media, I wish I could spend time with them in person like I did during college.
2. Responsibilities at home.
I get it, I'm an adult now. Unfortunately, that means I have responsibilities, such as chores around the house and helping my parents out with yard work and cooking. Sure, I had to clean and wash dishes, but I never needed to cook for myself (unless it was microwavable food) or do yard work while at college.
3. Less freedom.
I had more freedom at college than I do at home. Basically, I could eat whenever and whatever I wanted, hang out with friends, or spend all day in bed doing nothing and there weren't any consequences. Now, though, I have responsibilities and can't go for a late-night Sheetz run with friends at midnight.
4. Going back to work.
I know I mentioned this as a pro before, but it can be considered a con, too. It's nice to work so that you have money to spend; however, free time that could be spent relaxing or hanging with friends is now dedicated to working.
