I remember sitting in Ms. Holley’s fourth grade classroom. She was a first-year teacher, and eager to begin spreading knowledge. She looked at our small, innocent faces on the first day of school and started crying. She was so happy to finally be in a classroom of her own. Ms. Holley had a passion for teaching. She opened her heart to all of us, and we soon became a part of her family.
On a cold Friday afternoon, Ms. Holley’s boyfriend asked for her hand in marriage in front of 25 of her biggest admirers. Right then and there we had a great example of love, plus we all thought they were Cinderella and Prince Charming. On June 26, all of us sang at her wedding, and danced the night away at the wedding reception.
Everyone has a favorite teacher, but some become a part of your family.
Teachers are so important to the well being of all children. They are your moms away from home. They teach you so many life lessons you don’t even realize you are learning.
When you fall on the playground, they are there to pick you up. When you get frustrated because you can’t solve your multiplication tables, your patient teacher is right by your side. Even when you behave badly, your teacher is there to correct you.
According to TIME magazine, UNESCO honored one of the world’s hardest-working professions with World Teachers’ Day on Monday, October 5, placing a spotlight this year on those who specialize in early childhood education.
“Globally, Early Childhood Education is a field often mired by poor training, staffing and funding,” TIME says. “According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, up to 10.9 million primary-school teachers will need to be recruited by 2020 to meet the goal of providing universal primary education for all.”
Good teachers challenge you, support you, encourage you and push you to become the best version of yourself.
Let’s all remember a special teacher that influenced our life in a positive way.
Teachers can change the way you see yourself and the world around you.
