Music is key. A great playlist is a must for any great fraternity party. The problem is that there is much debate on what a great playlist is and what songs should be included on said playlist. Luckily, I am here to help. Through countless hours of researching the topic, and studying women at college parties I have scientifically proven what songs should be on the playlist to end all playlists.
All of these songs cater to the college woman looking to let loose after a hard week, easy week, or even the most ordinary week you’ve ever had. They are best enjoyed past the point of just tipsy but not yet at the stumbling around phase. Honestly everything is best enjoyed at that stage, but this playlist won’t allow for any time to drink so you’ve got to get it out of the way before. You’ll be screaming at the top of your lungs, not caring that you got a 72 on that test you studied, “literally all week for.”
Without further ado here are the 44 songs that comprise the greatest playlist ever made:
1. “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson
This is not up for debate. If you don’t love this song then this article is not for you.
2. “Pieces of Me” by Ashlee Simpson
I was shocked that some girls had never even heard this song, but for those of you ladies that have, I’m sure you understand why this is included.
3. “Too Little, Too Late” by JoJo
I think we’ve all come up just a little too late at some point in our lives. Lucky for us though, JoJo found out and produced a banger about it.
4. “We Can’t Stop” by Miley
“Ugh I miss the old Miley” is simultaneously said by every girl after this song ends, but new Miley is the most fraternal girl of our generation. I love it.
5. “Take A Bow” by Rihanna
Ladies use more facial expressions during this song than they do in a conversation explaining to someone why leggings are pants. Seriously, listen to this song half a bottle of Moscato deep and tell me I’m wrong.
6. “Temperature” by Sean Paul
I have no idea half of the words he’s saying, but they come out with so much flow. We're all thinking, 'what the hell is he saying' right after, “I got the right temperature,” because we all end up singing something that would be spelled out to be, “fashita.”
7. “Seniorita” by JT
A playlist titled the playlist to end all playlists couldn’t be complete without JT. If I could change places with anyone it would either be JT or Chandler Parsons. I’m sure most of y’all ladies have no idea who the second one is but you’ll want to Google image his name.
8. “Hey Ya!” by OutKast
Once the “One, Two, Three” blast out of the stereo it’s over. Girls scream, I scream, my brothers scream at me to please put something on that’s a little less feminine, but I don’t budge. I never budge.
9. “Live Your Life” by T.I feat. Rihanna
I’m not going to lie, I feel like a badass singing along to this one. It does have some rap in the middle that no one knows the words to, but whatever.
10. “Pop, Lock & Drop it” by Huey
This is mainly included because although I happen to love my fair share of girl power jams, Guys are still guys and we love to watch the ladies pop it. We don’t really care much about the locking it, but then who doesn't love to see them drop it.
11. “Closing Time” by Semisonic
There is a little confusion in the faces of all the girls when this one comes on. Not sure if their supposed to leave or sing along they are quickly reassured when I lock the door, and force them to sing along. Just kidding...
12. “Jessie's Girl” by Rick Springfield
I’m not sure why you would take your mom to a fraternity party ladies, but every year countless moms roam the halls, wilder than they’ve ever been during a weekend dedicated to moms.
13. “Glamorous” by Fergie Feat. Ludacris
Without this song, I would have continued to think that there was an “E” somewhere in glamorous. Luckily, Fergie came out with this banger so I never have to make that mistake again.
14. “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners
The first thing I do when I hear this song is sway my head from side to side. Still not sure why, but at this point I’m pretty sure it’s just second nature.
15. “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston
This is where I really assert my dominance. Most people know some or even most of the words, but your boy happens to be borderline obsessed with Sean Kingston so I put on quite the show.
16. “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne
This is also a must on Mom's weekend, but even the most critical of my brothers can appreciate this song. Fun fact, though: I sang this song in my third-grade talent show, and as if there was any doubt, no I didn’t win.
17. “Year 3000” by Jonas Brothers
If not much has changed by the year 3000 then Donald Trump must not have gotten elected, and we can all be thankful for that. On the real, this was definitely the Jo Bro’s best song, it’s a damn shame they all decided to ride solo.
18. “Hoedown Throwdown” by Miley Cyrus
Back when she was Hannah Montana, Miley was still killing the game. Even though I’m still trying to figure out how to “polka dot it,” the rest of the dance is quite simple.
19. “I Want It That Way” by The Baskstreet Boys
To be honest I’m not a big fan of the Backstreet Boys which I know may come as a bit of a surprise considering the songs on this list. I’m a people pleaser though and I know ladies love this one so I took one for the team.
20. “Breaking Free” by Troy and Gabriella
I mean why can’t Troy play basketball and sing. On a side note, I always hated that Ashley Tisdale was the villain when she was wifey material in the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
21. “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy and Ricardo
Not sure who the hell Ricardo is, but he’s got some serious talent if he can make a song universally loved that is based on a man banging some sloot all over the house while his girlfriend watches.
22. “Complicated” by Avril Lavigne
Even though life is not complicated if you’re doing it right, this is simply a banger. This is the one where the crazy girls really let loose though so note to self ladies, don’t be the loudest one singing this song.
23. “Here’s To Never Growing Up” by Avril Lavigne
Even though you do at some point have to grow up that doesn’t mean tonight has to be the night. So keep slapping that bag while spilling it all over your brand new white Urban Outfitters shirt.
24. “Beverly Hills” by Weezer
Most of us have felt bad about ourselves at some point, but I think Weezer reached an all time low when he wrote this song. I mean c’mon Weezer it can’t be that bad, afterall you got some serious dimes to partake in this music video.
25. “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce and Jay-Z
Making a song with your spouse would be pretty tight. It’s a shame that I’ll never get to enjoy that. At least, I can pretend for a song with some girl who has an even worse singing voice than I on top of a couple chairs. Close enough.
26. “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton
I’m not sure you realize how far 1,000 miles is but it’s only 834 from St. Louis to Washington D.C according to the first website I saw on google. That seems a bit excessive, at that point I’d just make a gofundmepage to buy a plane ticket.
27. “Behind These Hazel Eyes” by Kelly Clarkson
You can never have too much Kelly, but there is no louder noise than when a drunk girl, and by drunk girl I mean me, screams “here I am, once again” when that beat finally drops.
28. “Sugar We’re Going Down” by Fall Out Boy
I have yet to figure out what the difference between Fall Out Boy and Nickleback is other than the fact that one of them I have to secretly like, and the other I can jam out to at a fraternal party.
29. “Tik Tok” by Kesha
Ke$ha has been and will always be an incredible artist. #FreedomForKesha
30. “Beautiful Soul” by Jesse McCartney
The first time I heard this song was on the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. I was instantly hooked, and because of it I added a second requirement for my future wife. The first is that she drives a slug bug convertible, I’ll even let her chose the color, but the second is that our first dance as husband and wife is to this song.
31. “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada
The chorus of this song just makes me want to jump up and down. A good portion of the song doesn’t even have lyrics but who cares. We're jumping.
32. “Ignition (Remix)” by R. Kelly
This is the song that comes to mind when I think of a throwback from our early glory days, so I really had no choice but to include it in this playlist. Plus I’m super tight with R. Kelly and he would have been pissed if I didn’t.
33. “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond
Even if all you know is, “Sweeeeeet Caroline! Ba Ba Ba” you still love this song. It also gives the rest of us who actually know this classic a time to really strut our stuff.
34. “Pon De Replay” by Rihanna
I’ve found that there is something about Rihanna that makes you ladies dance more intensely. My next playlist will only have Rihanna.
35. “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani
I bet you thought I was going to say something about what the heck a hollaback girl is, but I didn’t. As part of my research I hit my girl Gwen up and asked her. Her answer was very surprising; it isn’t what you think it is.
36. “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira and Wyclef Jean
My very first girlfriend in 4th grade loved this song. She sang it at her swimming birthday party which was a big deal at the time. I was pretty upset that my friend knew the words and I didn’t, and thought she was going break up with me for him. She didn’t though and I broke up with her in case you were wondering. She’s still trying to get over it so I figured putting this song on here is the least I could do.
37. “Do My Thang” by Miley Cyrus
When this song comes on you have never seen so many white middle and upper class girls put their thuggin’ face on at once. It’s actually quite frightening so I just change the song and everything goes back to normal.
38. “Vivir Mi Vida” by Marc Anthony
Even though no one knows what the hell he is saying, because it’s in Español this song is badass. You can easily tell which girls have been to one of the Caribbean Islands, because they all yell “They played this all the time at the (insert five star Caribbean island resort).” Those are the girls I go for because that means their rich. Screw personality I’m just trying to be a trophy husband.
39. “The Night is Still Young” by Nicki Minaj
By this point, the night is most certainly not still young, because you ladies don’t even get to the house until like 11:30. Regardless this is a great song unlike most of Nicki’s others
40. “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
500 miles is a little more realistic than 1,000 but that’s still a hella long walk. I probably wouldn’t make a Gofundme for this trip, but I’d definitely mow some lawns and just buy a bus ticket.
41. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper
Another classic for moms weekend, the moms are always very impressed that we have even heard this song. The ladies are all quite drunk at this point, and even though you don’t say anything I know you are all pondering life and come to the conclusion, “ya know, that is really all we want.”
42. “Irreplacable” by Beyonce
Beyonce could definitely have another one in a minute. I don’t know if she was dating Jay at the time this was released or if this song is even based on something that really happened but I would make things right. Beyonce if your reading this you’re The Queen and I would treat you right girl, all you have to do is get a slug bug convertible.
43. “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie
I wish the song was called big boys don’t cry and I could play it for one of my brothers. Seriously a wise man once said, “boys aren’t worth crying about, and the one that is won’t make you”. I say 'boys', because I don’t think any of my fraternity brothers read this far down.
44. “Sk8er Boy” by Avril Lavigne
We’ve all been through the skater phase. I can barely walk without tripping over myself so that phase ended before it could really take off. I always wonder though, what if I would have stuck with it? Probably wouldn’t be in this frat so thank God for terrible balance.
I hope you enjoyed the article and rediscovered a couple of your favorite songs from your childhood and early teen years. If you do make this playlist, you’re in for a treat.
*On a side note I made this playlist on Spotify, and while it is great, it doesn’t have any T-Swift songs. If you use a different music playing service, I would highly recommend adding “Our Song” and “Fifteen.”
