You’re in a room full of mirrors. The room is dull with just a little bit of moonlight soaking in. Everything is quiet, so quiet that you can hear your lungs fill with air and then let it go. Dust is floating in the moonlight and the room has a blue tint. All you can see is the mirrors. You finally look into the mirrors and see your reflection staring back at you. The silence is almost unbearable as you stare at your reflection. You turn around to see mirrors all around you. There are millions of you staring back. Except it isn’t your usual reflection because they are all staring at you with hatred. They no longer mimic your every move instead they are standing still. Your breathing becomes heavier as you panic. You look closer at the mirror; tears are filled in your eyes. As a tear falls down your cheek; you realize you are scared of yourself. The monster inside you begins to scare you. Your imperfections seem unbearable. All the sudden, panic and anger builds in the pit of your stomach. You stare angrily back at your reflection and scream “I hate you!”
The glass shatters into pieces. The sound of the glass breaking pierces your ears and leave them ringing. You are on the floor with your hands covering your head. You breathe in and out so much that it makes you light headed. Tears fall involuntarily down your face. The silence breaks and the sounds of birds chirping fills your ears. You look up to see a forest. It is beautiful and green; vines hang off the trees and a waterfall flows into a river. For a second it feels peaceful until the place begins to darken. The leaves fall and leave the trees bare. The birds chirping begin to sound like crows and the warm feeling becomes cold. You walk through the woods hesitantly. Chills run down your spine as you hear crackling. You quickly turn around to see if someone is following you but there isn’t a soul. Whispers fill your ears and the feeling of someone breathing down your neck is a feeling you can’t shake off. It gives you goosebumps and causes your neck to cringe. The whispers are insults. They insult your personality, your body and your future. They remind you of all of your mistakes; throwing them in your face. It becomes so loud that it is now all you can hear. You drop to the floor screaming “Stop!” but they just laugh at you. It is causing you to break but you don’t want to break; you refuse to break. Shadows are approaching you but they are just shadows. They don’t have faces but as they come closer, the whispers become louder. They want you to break but instead you reach for a branch, slowly stand up and lift up your head. You swing it at the shadows with a strong swing and they disappear.
You stand silently in a desert and out in the distance is another person. The figure stands still before you but you can’t make it out who it is. So, you go closer to the figure as the sand moves with your feet. The place is dry and hot; it automatically makes you sweat. The wind blows and sticks the sand to your body. You approach the figure who is wearing a mask. The mask is red and the figure is wearing all black. “Who are you?” you ask. “You don’t want to know,” they answer. You rip the mask of the figures face and see your worst nightmare. Before you, stand’s somebody you could never forgive. Somebody who hurt you so much that you couldn’t get them out of your head. Anger rushes through you and tears fill your eyes. Before you could say anything, a crack begins to form in the desert floor. It breaks; splitting you two apart. The person you hate begins to fall to their death. You have the power to watch them fall and die because they hurt you in the worse way. You also have the power to save their life. Hatred of being reminded of the past fills your heart and is slowly turning it cold as you watch the enemy struggle to stay alive. Then something turns and you realize you aren’t them and you never will be. You grab their hand and with all of your might, pull them up and save their life. You lay on the hot ground breathless and close your eyes.
When you open your eyes, you are back in the room full of mirrors. You look around confused because you went around in a circle. Again, you face your reflection; staring at you with hatred. You spin around in circles as dozens of you stare back. “Go away!” you scream. You drop to the floor and look up at the reflections staring down at you. The feeling of your heart breaking is agonizing. You stare at the floor unable to look back at your reflection. Your refusal for breaking down is no longer strong enough. Tears fall down your eyes uncontrollably and the feeling of emptiness washes over you. Then there is a strength in your heart. You look at your reflection and stand up. You walk to the mirror and stare at your reflection. Instead of looking at it with hatred you smile with tears streaming down your face. You wipe them and smile at your reflection and say “I forgive you."
