The One with Memes from 2016

If you didn’t know already, a meme is a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc. that is spread rapidly by Internet users. There were a lot of great memes from this year that seemed to take over everyone’s twitter feeds. Here are a few that hopefully make you laugh!

1.) Damn Daniel!

This meme got really old, really quick, but it was funny while it lasted. This viral video featured and kid name Daniel and his white Vans, and that is basically it. The video got so big he was on an episode of Ellen and got a lifetime supply of vans.

2.) Ken Bone

Ken Bone became an instant meme after one of the political debates this year. I am not sure if it was his sweater, his mustache, or just the fact that it was a humorous break from a very controversial election, but Ken Bone seemed to put a smile on everyone’s face during a stressful time.

3.) Blurry Mr. Krabs

This blurry picture of Mr. Krabs from an episode of Spongebob was huge hit this year. It seemed like you could caption this picture anything and it can perfectly describe your mood.

4.) Spongegar

This meme doesn’t even really need an explanation, mostly because it doesn’t really make sense. But Spongegar, aka Caveman Spongebob, seems to be able to describe you when something unexpected and confusing happens.

5.) Arthur's Fist

Who knew that a picture of an aardvark’s fist could have so many emotions. That’s right, this is Arthur’s fist. The cartoon show that a lot of us watched as kid. This meme seems to be very relatable for angry people who don’t want to express their anger so they clench their fist instead.

6.) Joe Biden

BROMANCE alert! There are so many great pictures of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden that really show their brotherly relationship. I don’t think we will ever see another iconic duo like Obama and Biden in office.

7.) Harambe

If for some reason you didn’t know, Harmabe was a gorilla from the Cincinnati Zoo who was killed after a young boy fell into his cage. Harambe may not have been intentially harming him, but because he was dragging the child he was. The killing became very controversial, many thought that the gorilla had no right to be killed, while some believed if they tranquallized Harambe it would have made him angry. The internet seems to care a lot about Harambe though considering he became into a meme and internet users mocked his death.

8.)You vs. The Guy She Tells You Not to Worry About

In this meme there are usually two people, often celebrities or television show characters. The person on the left is “you,” and the person on the right is usually a very attractive person that you SHOULD be worried about, but she tells you not to worry.

9.) Little Drake

This year Drake revealed the cover art for his forthcoming Views From the Six, which has a little version of Drake on it. The album got a lot of attention and of course became a meme. This made it way too easy to photoshop Drake in, well just about anything.

10.) Evil Kermit

Last year everyone was using the meme of Kermit drinking tea, but this is the latest meme that seems to be well deserving of a “MEEEEEEEE.” This hysterical picture of Kermit and “Evil Kermit” is good for describing battles with your inner-self.

New memes were introduced every month in 2016. People were flipping their water bottles, clenching their fists, and naming iconic duos. Hopefully 2017 can deliver even more great memes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
