The results of the 2016 presidential election have brought about a lot of anger for many Americans, but there's one thing that keeps us going: Joe Biden memes. I know it sounds dumb, how can a silly Internet meme save us all from the disaster that is the 2016 election? Well, it can't, but for me, it's giving me something to laugh and smile about when the rest of what I see in my Facebook newsfeed or Twitter timeline is all going to hell.
If you've been avoiding the Internet since the election, you might not know what I'm talking about. Joe Biden memes have existed for awhile now but since the election results, they've gone completely viral. Basically, Joe Biden memes are pictures of Vice President Biden and usually President Obama with captions of what they could be saying to each other. Many of them focus on Biden theoretically playing jokes on President-elect Trump when he moves into the White House.
Here are a few of my favorites:
And a guest appearance from my boy Bernie Sanders:
Obviously, Obama and Biden are very professional people and probably haven't had these conversations but there's something so funny about imagining the people in charge of the country having ridiculous conversations with each other. A lot of us have this tendency to want to know about the "normal" part of famous people and political figures' lives. We want this reassurance that these people experience similar situations as the rest of us. I personally have always loved when politicians are guests on late night talk shows. I love hearing Obama talk about the day-to-day activities of living in the White House and being the president, or what it's like to raise his kids in the White House.
The best part about the memes is that even though the conversations are fake, Obama and Biden's friendship is very real. It's always comforting to know that beyond all the political crap, politicians are real people. I haven't been alive for too many presidents, but Obama and Biden are definitely my favorite president-vice president pair. I have so much respect for both of them as people and politicians.
This is by far the best meme of the year. Biden memes pass Harambe and Dat Boi by a long shot. This meme has been big for over a week and I haven't seen anyone on Twitter say that they're sick of it yet. Dat Boi got old really quick. Harambe, while an incredible meme, makes me slightly angry because 11,000 people wasted their vote to write him in this election. The Internet has a weird way of making random things go viral that don't entirely make sense, but that's what I love about the Internet. A meme doesn't make any sense the first time you see it but you just go along with it and the more you see it, the funnier it gets until it becomes a stale meme. What's special about the Biden memes, though, is it's not just a weird millennial meme thing. I explained Biden memes to my parents and they thought they were funny. Finally, a wholesome meme that we all understand.
